A more serious Kyoko Fukada

In a recent interview, Daily Mainichi interviewed actress Kyoko Fukada. Here is a brief excerpt from the interview:

“When I read the script, I wasn’t very fond of her,” Kyoko Fukada says of Narumi Kurita, the character she plays in the new series on the Fuji Television Network, “Massugu na otoko” (Straight man). She says it’s not rare for her to play characters with whom she can’t identify.

“We don’t get a portrayal of our characters’ pasts. And we start performing our roles without knowing how the story ends.”

Narumi is a rebel, and on the surface seems to be living life with abandon. She has men wrapped around her little finger, and has a devilishness about her.

“I wondered why she was so defiant,” Fukada says. “I couldn’t really understand her.”
