Life takes commitment. As much as things have changed, good and bad, for the doctors at Seattle Grace, they’re now faced with the challenge of how willing they are to commit – to their careers, to love, to friendships, to the choices they make. And they will start to realize they have to deal with their lives to understand what matters most to them and how commitment helps define who they are.

In 2005, “Grey’s Anatomy” became a critically acclaimed television series that would become ABC’s top rated dramas and winner of two Emmy and Golden Globe Awards.
Created by Shonda Rhimes (“Private Practice”), the drama series revolves around a group of interns and their experience at Seattle Grace Hospital. As well, as a few of the other doctors of the hospital. Throughout the first five seasons, we see these interns become residents and experience relationship problems and also the stress and challenges they face as resident doctors. The last season was a bit more dramatic as love was lost, love was found and we saw one of the main characters battling cancer, while another dies in a tragic accident.
Season six features a merger between Seattle Grace and Mercy West and this season introduces us to new doctors and characters who will have an impact on the current main characters.

The characters of “Grey’s Anatomy” Season 6 include:
Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo, “Daredevil”, “Old School”) - A resident surgeon Seattle’s Grace Hospital who is now married to Dr. Derek Shepherd. Best friends with Dr. Cristina Yang.
Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey, “The Practice”, “Made of Honor”, “The Practice”, “Freedom Writers”) - The head of neurosurgery and was married to Dr. Addison Montgomery (“Private Practice”) who had an affair with his friend Dr. Mark Sloan. He is now married to Dr. Meredith Grey. Known as “McDreamy” to the Dr. Meredith Grey and her friends.
Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh, “Blindness”, “Arli$$”, “Sideways”) - A resident surgeon at Seattle’s Grace Hospital and a best friend of Dr. Meredith Grey, not afraid of confessing her emotions to her friends. She is currently dating Dr. Owen Hunt. She wants to have more hands on experience as a cardiac surgeon.
Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens (Katherine Heigl, “27 Date”, “Roswell”, “Knocked Up”) – A resident surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital and is married to Dr. Alex Karev. She is recovering from cancer.
Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers, “Lakeview Terrace”, “Cold Case”, “The Wedding Planner”) - A doctor at Seattle’s Grace Hospital. Abrasive towards the new interns and is married to Dr. Isobel Stevens.
Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane, “Marley & Me”, “X-Men: The Last Stand”, “Charmed”) - Once a best friend (and almost like family) to Dr. Derek Shepherd but had an affair with Derek’s wife, and definitely help lead towards their divorce. Specializes in plastic surgery and often looked at as arrogant. Has had sexual relations with many women and is now dating Dr. Lexie Grace. Known to the female doctors as “McSteamy”.
Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh, “The Practice”, “Girls Club, “That ’80s Show”) – Dr. Meredith Grey’s sister (both are not really close to each other). Trying to learn and strives to learn everything from the doctors at Seattle Grace Hospital and known for her photographic memory. Has had a sexual relationship with Dr. Alex Karev and is now dating Dr. Sloan.
Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez, “Baseball Wives”, “Chicago”) – A former chief resident at Seattle Grace Hospital and an orthopedic surgeon. Was married with Dr. George O’Malley. Later, she has a sexual relationship with Dr. Mark Sloan (in order to prove to herself that she is heterosexual) but is now starting to understand her feelings that she is a lesbian and exploring her relationship with Dr. Arizona Robbins. Currently, roommates with Dr. Yang.
Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw, “The Practice”) – Head of Pediatric Surgery and has a relationship with Dr. Torres.
Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson, “Philadelphia”) - A resident surgeon in charge of five interns (now residents). Known for her tough love and blunt comments.
Dr. Richard Webber (James Picken’s Jr., “Curb Your Enthusiasm, “The Lyon’s Den”, “Six Feet Under”) - The Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace Hospital. In earlier seasons, it is learned that he had an affair with Meredith’s mother and is like a father figure to her. Because of Seattle Grace’s ranking starts to suffer, he enforces tough rules on his doctors and is a recovering alcoholic.
Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd, “Journeyman”, “Rome”) – Head of the trauma surgery and boyfriend of Cristina Yang. Dr. Hunt is recovering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder suffered while serving in Iraq.
Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver, “24″, “Lipstick Jungle”, “Third Watch”) - Head of Cardiothoracic Surgery and served in Iraq with Dr. Hunt. She loves Owen and she is coming between Dr. Hunt and and Dr. Yang.
Dr. Jackson Avery (Jesse Williams, “Beyond the Break”) – A surgical resident from Mercy West Hospital who joins Seattle Grace after the merger. The grandson of the famous surgeon Dr. Harper Avery who has a crush on Cristina.
Dr. Reed Adamson (Norah Zehetner, “Heroes”, “Mad Men”) - A surgical resident from Mercy West Hospital who joins Seattle Grace after the merger and is attracted to Alex.
Dr. Charles Percy (Robert Baker, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”, “Leatherheads”) – A surgical resident from Mercy West Hospital who joins Seattle Grace after the merger.

For the most part, the sixth season does look very good on DVD.
It’s important to note that since the release of the fifth season of “Grey’s Anatomy”, that season received a Blu-ray release and more than likely, there will be a Blu-ray release for this sixth season. For those who want better picture quality and lossless audio, I recommend the Blu-ray release.

I admit that I was critical and harsh of the fifth season of “Grey’s Anatomy” and just felt the show was heading downhill through the first half and the season managed to pick up during the second half. So much was focused on the problems on the set with Katherine Heigl and T.R. Knight. And eventually, we know how things have ended up in the season finale.
With last season focusing on Izzie’s cancer, her relationship with Alex and problems in the relationship between Meredith and Derek and dealing with Callie and Lexie’s personal issues… I felt that with the sixth season “Grey’s Anatomy” is desperately needing to step things up with the writing as I have felt needed to interject some new blood, new energy before the storylines focusing on these characters becomes overly stale.
And sure enough, the writers have achieved that with the sixth season. The merger between Seattle Grace and Mercy West was probably the best thing to happen with this show because we have new characters. Also, we have stories focusing on Derek and Richard’s troubles, we get to see more of Arizona (especially Arizona and Callie), the introduction of Teddy and most importantly, the introduction to the new residents coming from Mercy West. These four characters have brought some new life to the series and I was really rooting for them because I can see potential storylines that can come from these new characters. I felt “Grey’s Anatomy” had new energy, new life and I’m stoked about the series all over again.
That was until the shocking season finale.
All I can say is… “Wow!”. Although we have seen a similar type of storyline on “ER” several years ago, it’s a big gamble as you don’t know who is going to be killed off. But suffice to say, this season finale was a major success and the writer’s have crafted one of the most impressive season finale’s in a drama series within the last decade. A fantastic way to end the season and at the same time, a bit bittersweet as some characters that may have grown on us will not be back due to the tragic season finale.
Needless to say, “Grey’s Anatomy” writers really did a fantastic job with this season. I felt the fifth season, although good, was in somewhat of a slump and I have to admit, the season opener of the sixth season, wasn’t all that great either. But as the episodes progressed and seeing how these newer characters were integrated into show, I definitely saw the potential, almost like “Grey’s Anatomy” reborn and seeing its greatness return to television.
As for this DVD set, there are a good amount of special features including the web episodes of “Seattle Grace: On Call”, deleted scenes, a featurette on Chandra Wilson as a director and the extended episode of the season finale.
With that being said, there’s not much I can say badly about “Grey’s Anatomy – Complete Sixth Season”. It was well conceived this season, the acting was very well-done (and I can understand some hardcore fans feeling that their original characters were not utilized as much as previous seasons but with more characters, the series needed new energy and these newer characters provided that) and overall, it was a solid season that literally ended with a bang.
If you are a fan of the series, “Grey’s Anatomy – Complete Sixth Season” is definitely recommended!

“Grey’s Anatomy” – Goodbye Izzie (Katherine Heigl)?
March 12, 2010 by J!-ENT · Leave a Comment
Entertainment Weekly’s Michael Ausiello has received confirmation from his sources that Katherine Heigl got what she wanted…a discharge from the show that made her a celebrity. The actress was to return on the set on March 1st but never showed up.
It will be interesting to see how the story deals with her character. Looking back at how things have been in the past several years, she has been an disgruntled unhappy employee for quite awhile. We are surprised she and the Shonda Rhimes let it continue for this long.
The Ugly Truth (a J!-ENT Blu-ray Disc Review)

A sexy, raunchy and hilarious romantic comedy that looks and sounds incredible on Blu-ray. Those who enjoyed “The Ugly Truth” will definitely enjoy this solid Blu-ray release!

The romantic sex comedy “The Ugly Truth” was a Summer hit and became actress Katherine Heigl’s (“Grey’s Anatomy”, “27 Dresses”, “Knocked Up”) latest film to become a box office hit earning over $193 million worldwide.
“The Ugly Truth” is directed by Robert Luketic (“21″, “Legally Blonde”) and featured a screenplay by Karen McCullah Lutz (“10 Things I Hate About You” TV series, “The House Bunny”, “Legally Blonde”) and Kirsten Smith (“The House Bunny”, “Legally Blonde”, “Ella Enchanted”). The film features music by composer Aaron Zigman (“The Proposal”, “My Sister’s Keeper”, “Madea Goes to Jail”) and cinematographer Russell Carpenter (“21″, “Titanic”, “Charlie’s Angels” films).
The film revolves around a Sacramento-based morning show that is being slaughtered in the ratings. Producer Abby Richter (played by Katherine Heigl) feels that she is doing a very good at her job but with ratings slipping, her job is on the line.
Meanwhile, her love life is not exactly going that great. Having really no major experience with men, she has been trying online dating sites to no avail. Frustrated by her date, when she returns home, her pet cat accidentally hits a remote control and the channel is changed to “The Ugly Truth”, a show hosted by Mike Chadway (played by Gerard Butler, “300″, “The Phantom of the Opera”, “Beowulf and Grendel”).
Mike is popular for his love advice that he gives to men and women and how they can easily get laid. His advice turns Abby off and prompts her to call him and tell her that he is wrong which leads to Mike telling her that she can’t get laid because she’s ugly.
When Abby goes to work the following day, she finds out from her boss that Mike has been hired by the morning show to bring his version of “The Ugly Truth” to their morning show to help bring up the ratings.
On his first appearance, Mike tries to fix the tension my husband and wife hosts Larry (played by John Michael Higgins, “Kath & Kim”, “Raising the Bar”) and Georgia (played by Cheryl Hines, “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, “In the Motherhood”) by telling them live on the show that they don’t have great sex and they need to work on it because its evident that their tension is because of it. And while the show is live, both husband and wife start making out. The result of Mike’s appearance is positive as the show earned higher ratings and better feedback from its viewers.
Not so thrilled and somewhat repulsed by Mike, Abby knows that she has to be nice to him since he is responsible for the show’s turnaround in the ratings. But Mike knows that Abby is having problems in her love life and so, he decides to help her get a man by giving her advice. From dressing sexy and not look so conservative but a woman that can get a guy in bed.
Sure enough, the advice that Abby has received from Mike works. But while Mike tries to give advice to her, he finds himself attracted to Abby.
Will Mike continue to help Abby progress with her love life to another man or will he let her know his feelings towards her?
VIDEO & AUDIO:
“The Ugly Truth” is featured in 1080p High Definition (aspect ration of 2:40:1) and for the most part, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment delivers with an impressive film which showcases clarity, vibrancy and plenty of detail. The film has a fine layer of grain, blacks are well done but for the most part, as expected from a talented cinematographer such as Titanic’s Russell Carpenter, “The Ugly Truth” is absolutely beautiful on High Definition.
As for audio, the film is presented in English, French and Portuguese 5.1 DTS-HD MA (also, Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital and an English-Audio Description track). “The Ugly Truth” sounds absolutely beautiful with its lossless track. Dialogue and music is front and center channel but is for the most part crystal clear. Also, a good presence of the surround channels with one scene featuring Thunder which reverberates through the soundscape, a baseball game with the ambiance of the crowd, a restaurant scene with buzzing vibration sounds to the ambiance in areas where there are people all around. For the most part, surround usage is well done as you can hear the sounds all around you.
But one thing that “The Ugly Truth” is known for is its use of modern music. From Kate Perry’s “Hot n’ Cold”, Flo Rida’s “Right Round”, Natasha Bedingfield’s “Pocketful of Sunshine” and the Latin music by Los Pinguos, the music is crystal clear with a good amount of bass and sounds absolutely beautiful via the film’s lossless soundtrack.
Subtitles for “The Ugly Truth” are in English, English SDH, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

The screenplay for “The Ugly Truth” is from the women who brought us “Legally Blonde”, “Ella Enchanted” and “The House Bunny” and there latest film is possibly there most raunchiest film yet. With “The House Bunny” showcasing a sexy but dumb blonde storyline, “The Ugly Truth” features an intelligent, beautiful blonde who seems to not know how to attract men.
Needless to say, this romantic comedy is quite sexy but it depends on how one views the film. I can see women who may feel angered that Abby, a beautiful, intelligent woman has to listen to the potty-mouth, sexually charged character Mike on how to attract men. Granted, if men were responsible for writing this screenplay, I’m sure the film would receive the wrath of some women but the fact is that the film was written by a woman, screenplay adapted by women and even Katherine Heigl executive produced this film.
But assuming that you came to watch this film without the seriousness or politically correctness, then “The Ugly Truth” can be seen as a raunchy, sexually driven comedy. Some scenes are either going to make you laugh or make you think the jokes are just stupid. From Abby spilling a drink on her date’s crotch and then trying to rub his pants with a napkin at a baseball game and attracting the attention of the people, let alone the camera crew to Abby wearing panties with a vibrator that a scene is nearly reminiscent of the popular “When Harry Met Sally” scene.
Personally for me, Katherine Heigl is way too sexy and beautiful of an actress that it’s hard to believe that she can’t find a date. But I felt that Heigl did a solid job for the role of Abby. As for Gerard Butler, he plays your typical chauvinistic male, potty-mouth, very blunt character that knows how to attract women and thus give advice to them and he also did a great job for the character. Interesting chemistry that works onscreen and both wanted to be a raunchy Spencer & Tracy type of duo and for the most part, the two were quite fun to watch together.
Needless to say, like how many critics felt about the film, how the audience will find this film will probably be the same. Those who will find it funny and those who will find the film not to their liking.
With that being said, the film’s release on Blu-ray looks incredible and has a pretty solid lossless soundtrack for a romantic comedy. It helps when you have popular, contemporary music featured in the film.
Overall, “The Ugly Truth” is not the kind of romantic comedy ala “Sleepless in Seattle” or “When Harry Met Sally” but if you are looking for a romantic comedy that is sexually charged, then this film is for you. For the most part, I found the film to be quite fun and I admit that I found certain scenes to be hilarious but I also admit that the film seemed a bit farfetched at times. But personally, it’s good to have a romantic comedy that is different once in awhile and in this case, a film that is pretty raunchy. So, in some ways it was interesting to see how far the screenplay and the talent would go (via improvisation).
If you are wanting a romantic comedy especially a film with raunchy humor, then definitely give “The Ugly Truth” a chance.
Grey’s Anatomy – Complete Fifth Season – More Moments (a J!-ENT DVD Review)
September 5, 2009 by Dennis Amith · 3 Comments

“The fifth season of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ was quite interesting as the season garnered hype onscreen and off. The season may have started off with hokey, farfetched stories for the first half, but the series redeems itself in the second with solid storytelling. Definitely the most shocking and most entertaining season finale for the drama series thus far.
Throughout the first four seasons, we see these interns become residents and experience relationship problems and also the stress and challenges they had to become a resident doctor.
For season five, “Grey’s Anatomy” received its share of hype on entertainment magazines with rumors swirling of talent who were no longer going to be on the show and that tension was developing on the set. For this fifth season, the season did start off with stories that seemed a bit farfetched and a tad bit hokey, but for the most part, redeemed itself for the second half with solid storytelling.

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 5 focuses on the following main characters:
Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo, “Daredevil”, “Old School”) - A resident surgeon Seattle’s Grace Hospital who has an on-and-off again relationship with Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey). Best friends with Dr. Cristina Yang.
Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh, “Blindness”, “Arli$$”, “Sideways”) - A surgeon at Seattle’s Grace Hospital and a best friend of Dr. Meredith Grey, not afraid of confessing her emotions to her friends. In earlier seasons, she was dating Dr. Preston Burke who left her on the day of their wedding.
Dr. Isobel “Izzie” Stevens (Katherine Heigl, “27 Date”, “Roswell”, “Knocked Up”) – A former model who used the money to pay for her medical school. Izzue is a surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital. She lives with Meredith and earlier in the series, she falls for a heard patient named Denny Duquette. Denny died and left millions of dollars to her, in which she went on to create a free clinic at Seattle Grace. She also had a brief romantic fling with Dr. George O’Malley and thus both are close friends. The fifth season focuses on Izzie as her relationship with Alex Karev grows and for some reason, is starting to see Denny again.
Mark Sloan. Now has an off-and-on relationship with Dr. Meredith Grey. Known as “McDreamy” to the Dr. Meredith Grey and her friends.
Has had sexual relations with Dr. Callie Torres. Known to the female doctors as “McSteamy”.
Dr. Alex Karev (Justin Chambers, “Lakeview Terrace”, “Cold Case”, “The Wedding Planner”) - A doctor at Seattle’s Grace Hospital. Abrasive towards the new interns and has an interest in Dr. Isobel Stevens.
Dr. George O’Malley (T.R. Knight, “The Last Request”) - An intern at Seattle’s Grace Hospital who was married to Dr. Callie Torres but had an affair with Dr. Isobel Stevens. He is a good friend with Izzie and has failed his residency exam several times and is preparing to take it again.
Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez, “Baseball Wives”, “Chicago”) – A former chief resident at Seattle Grace Hospital and an orthopedic surgeon. Was married with Dr. George O’Malley. Later, she has a sexual relationship with Dr. Mark Sloan (in order to prove to herself that she is heterosexual) but is now starting to understand her feelings that she has for cardiothoracic surgeon Erica Hahn.
In earlier seasons, it is learned that he had an affair with Meredith’s mother. Because of Seattle Grace’s ranking starts to suffer, he enforces tough rules on his doctors.
Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh, “The Practice”, “Girls Club, “That ’80s Show”) – Dr. Meredith Grey’s sister (both are not really close to each other). An intern at Seattle Grace Hospital and known for her photographic memory. Has a sexual relationship with Dr. Alex Karev and is interested in Dr. George O’Malley.
Dr. Erica Hahn (Brooke Smith, “Crossing Jordan”, “Weeds”, “Law & Order”) - A cardiothoracic surgeon and workaholic doctor at Seattle Grace Hospital. Becomes romantic with Dr. Callie Torres.

VIDEO & AUDIO:
“Grey’s Anatomy – Complete Fifth Season – More Moments” is presented in Widescreen (1:78:1) – Enhanced for 16×9 televisions. When it comes to television drama series, “Grey’s Anatomy” is one of ABC’s highly rated dramas that although filmed in a hospital setting for the most part of the series, season five definitely indulges in beauty during a major wedding scene which featured solid cinematography. And speaking of the wedding, that was one of the most enchanting wedding scenes that I have seen in a drama series. Absolutely beautiful!
For the most part, the series looks good on DVD, nice good closeups and skintones are natural and during low light scenes, I didn’t see any major noise or compression artifacts. For the most part, the fifth season does look very good on DVD.
As for audio, the series is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and the series is primarily dialogue and music driven. Dialogue is clean and understandable, while the music has always played a major part for the series and definitely enhances certain scenes. Personally, I found it much more appealing to have my receiver set at stereo on all channels.
The show is presented in English SDH, Spanish and French subtitles.

I have to admit that when “Grey’s Anatomy” season five started, I thought the series has lost its vibe and was becoming another “ER” like-clone where stories would simply become to farfetched and hokey. But during the second half of the season, things simply changed. We started to get solid storylines that built-up to the best season finale for “Grey’s Anatomy” ever.
I think part of the mystique about the series this season was the hype and gossip about what was going on behind-the-scenes. Who is leaving the show? Who isn’t leaving the show? Would we even care for Izzie due to Katherine Heigl’s behavior off-set? The lesbian storyline. The brain tumor storyline. Who is disgruntled? Who isn’t being utilized all that much in the show. So, many things that could have gone wrong… but in the end, it was the writing for the series that managed to win viewers all over again.
From the cross-over with “Private Practice”, the return of Denny, a wedding, many new characters and so much more… But personally, it was those final four episodes that made viewers remember why we stuck with over 100 episodes of this drama series. Although, I can do without the icicle impaling or the interns surgically experimenting on each other (which to me was just too campy).
As or the DVD, I was expecting episode commentaries (it would have been wonderful to hear commentary for the 1ooth episode and the season finale) and something a bit more for the special features section but for the most part, what is featured is quite satisfactory.
Overall, “Grey’s Anatomy – Complete Fifth Season – More Moments” may have started out a bit hokey and farfetched but the season redeemed itself right at the end and had its most significant season finale ever. If you are a “Grey’s Anatomy” fan, one again, another DVD box set worth adding to your collection.
