Ayumi Hamasaki achieves her 20th album to reach #1, KAT-TUN achieves their 20th consecutive CD single to reach #1

J-Pop artist Ayumi Hamasaki (34) reached another milestone in her music career by joining Yumi Matsutoya and the rock band B’z as the only artists in Japan to achieve 20 albums that reached #1 on the Oricon Album Ranking.

For Hamasaki, it took her 14 years and 10 months to achieve the milestone, B’z reached 20 in 17 years in 10 months.

Also, boy band KAT-TUN has reached their 20th consecutive #1 CD single.  They are second place to KinKi Kids which is the #1 artist in Japan to have the most consecutive #1 singles with 32.  KinKi Kids currently holds the Guinness Book of World Records for the most consecutive #1 singles and the record is still ongoing.
