INTERNATIONAL: Everyone’s favorite, most incorrigible study group of misfits returns for a hilariously ingenious new year at Greendale Community College. From homicidal Halloween pizza parties, holiday Glee Club smackdowns, foosball showdowns, epic pillow fight wars and an underage campus security force to a shocking remarriage, a riotous funeral service, submarine sandwich throwdowns, a new Vice Dean (Emmy® winner John Goodman) with a strange air-conditioning fixation and a crime show homage for the ages — the Third Season of television’s boldest, brashest comedy is the most brilliant yet. Get ready to cram it all in. Starring Joel McHale, Gillian Jacobs, Danny Pudi, Yvette Nicole Brown, Alison Brie, Donald Glover, Jim Rash, with Ken Jeong and Emmy® winner Chevy Chase.

The third season of “Community” is here and the study group of Greendale Community College must experience multiple timelines, find out which person in the group may be a homicidal killer, enaging in a pillow fight, fill in for a Glee Club, hold a memorial for a dead classmate and more!

In 2009, writer and producer Dan Harmon (“The Sarah Silverman Program”, “Monster House”) and Rob Schrab (founder of the website/channel “101″) created a TV sitcom for NBC known as “Community”.

The series focuses on a troubled lawyer named Jeff Winger (played by Joel McHale) having to attend Greendale Community College after falsifying his law degree credentials. In order for him to not get disbarred, he must graduate from Greendale. So, he attends a study group which he forms with troublemaker student Britta Perry (played by Gillian Jacobs), an arrogant towlet millionaire and student Pierce Hawthorne (played by Chevy Chase), a straight-laced student named Annie Edison (played by Alison Brie), a former high school quarterback named Troy Barnes (played by Donald Glover), a single Christian mother named Shirley Bennett (played by Yvette Nicole Brown) and a film student named Abed Nadir (played by Danny Pudi).

In the first season of “Community”, the study group join together for Spanish 101 which is taught by their ego-maniacal teacher named Ben “Senor” Chang (as portrayed by Ken Jeong). The group become very good friends and hang out with each other.

In the second season of “Community”, the study group once again join together to study for an anthropology class taught by the weird June Bauer (as portrayed by Betty White). But this time around, what happens when Britta and Annie start to fall for Jeff, Shirley gives birth during anthropology class and Abed has developed an addiction to the sitcom series “Cougar Town”. From zombies to paint ball competitions, the second season of “Community” featured a lot of crazy college life and events that center around the study group at Greendale Community College!

And here we are with the third season, and more crazy college experiences continue at Greendale Community College!

How will life be between Troy and Abed when they become roommates, what will happen when Jeff and Annie grow even closer to each other or will Annie be able to be friends with Troy and Abed after she moves in with them?  Meanwhile, Britta suspects one of the study group members as homicidal maniac, Shirley and Pierce want to form a business venture together.  Meanwhile, Dean Pelton finds a new rival with Vice Dean Laybourne (as portrayed by John Goodman) and Senor Chang gets a job at the college as a security guard.

The main characters of “Community” are:

  • Jeff Winger (Joel McHale, “Spy Kids: All the Time in the World 4D”, “Spider-Man 2″, “The Soup”) – A lawyer who worked at the Colorado Bar Association but when it was revealed that he didn’t get his BA from Columbia University, he is offered to attend Greendale Community College as a deal with the firm, so he doesn’t get disbarred.

“Community – The Complete Third Season” is presented in Anamorphic Widescreen (1:78:1) – Enhance for 16×9 Televisions. For a DVD series, picture quality is very good, well-lit and pretty much a vibrant series. I didn’t notice too many compression artifacts on DVD but for the most part, fans of the series should be happy with the overall picture quality on DVD!

EXTRAS:

“Community – The Complete Third Season” comes with a slip case.

I don’t watch too much television but it when it comes to crazy comedies, I love the farcical, deprecating humor of shows such as “Scrubs”, “Cougar Town” and “Community”.   Unfortunately, here we are in 2012 and the first two series are now off the air and fortunately, “Community” has been given a fourth season albeit 13-episodes.

Suffice to say that comedies on television have gotten a bit shaky to say the least.  Even well-known dominant comedies have made people wonder if they will be coming back or not.

But as a “Community” fan, I can only hope that this season continues because there really is nothing like it on television.  Crazy humor, creative storylines and just fun characters that I look forward to watching every week.

This past third season in my opinion was raising a notch of what can be accomplished by the writers of the series.  From a musical to a “Groundhog Day” storyline and just constant ways to have fun and go crazy with the characters, I’m really enjoying “Community” right now!

So, there is so much to rave about of this series. I love the awkwardness and especially the character dynamics, you can tell the actors are comfortable with each other and it shows, especially in the outtakes.

In the third season, favorite episodes include “Geography of Global Conflict” in which Annie takes on an Asian Annie who is intelligent and an overachiever, but what is crazy is how their competition is affected by a malodorous flatulence.  And proves the fact that fart jokes can still be funny.

Another fantastic episode is “Remedial Chaos Theory” in which Abed discusses alternate storylines regarding the characters.  So, in a “Groundhog Day” style of storyline, we get to see similar sequences that end with a different result.  Amazing episode and absolutely hilarious!

Possibly the funnest episode of the season is the musical episode “Regional Holiday Music” in which the Study Group must fill in for the Glee Club.  Another hilarious episode is “Course Listing Unavailable” where the group must decide to host a memorial for the death of a student or even the crazy “Competitive Ecology” when the group discuss bringing in a new classmate into the group.

Needless to say, the third season of “Community” is fun, wild and fantastic and the writers continue to raise the bar of its all out weirdness and crazy storyline for each episode.  And once again, like the previous DVD releases, this DVD release goes way beyond what most TV sitcoms on DVD have done.  Not only does every episode have audio commentary, but there are many outtakes, deleted scenes and more!  So, fans of the series are definitely getting their money’s worth with this latest release.

Overall, “Community – The Complete Third Season” and the previous box set releases are probably one of the best TV sitcom box sets that I have come across when it comes to content. Not many series includes commentary for each episode nor do they go so far into adding so many special features and outtakes.  But the “Community” DVD box sets does just that.

If you love comedy, “Community” is a wonderful series and as always a fantastic DVD box set with an abundant amount of special features, “Community – The Complete Third Season” is highly recommended!

E! News Exclusive: Can You Say Jimjelina?

First -Time Oscar Winner and Angelina Jolie Impersonator, Jim Rash, Talks About His Academy Awards Performance For The First Time On TV With E! News

Fresh off his Oscar win, actor/writer Jim Rash stopped by E! News to dish about his high profile “Oscar” moment that’s generated tremendous buzz and gone viral. As Angelina Jolie was announcing his category, Best Screenplay, she struck a seductive pose that has created a wild response and Rash, upon accepting his award, struck that very same sultry position, leading some to say he was “mocking” the famous actress.

E! News can set the story straight as Rash explains, “I thought, ‘she was owning that [the pose]’, I thought ‘that’s a great way for me to own this proud moment.’”

When asked if he has heard anything from Brad or Angie he replied, “No, I haven’t heard from Brad and Angie…but if they want me to come to a pool party and explain it to their face, I will.” He continues, “I passed Brad on the way out [of the Oscars] and nothing happened…he didn’t punch me…my face is still perfect.”

Angie-controversy aside, Rash says the night was one to remember, “It’s been overwhelming …but at that moment when they read you name, it’s an emotion you can’t articulate…it was such an honor.” When he isn’t winning Oscars or mimicking one of the sexiest women alive, Rash can be found on the set of Community with E!’s Joel McHale.

Welcome back for a wild new year at Greendale Community College, as the study group faces their toughest tests yet… Why would bachelor-for-life Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) pop the big question to Britta (Gillian Jacobs)? What incites innocent Annie (Alison Brie) to chloroform a janitor? Hey, Pierce (Chevy Chase)! Is your mom really still alive in a lava lamp? Will Abed (Danny Pudi) miss his Pulp Fiction birthday for a chance to give Jeff his own version of My Dinner With Andre? What makes Troy (Donald Glover) boldly go for LeVar Burton? Shirley (Yvette Nicole Brown) is expecting – but who’s the daddy? Is it her ex-hubby (guest star Malcolm-Jamal Warner)? Or ex-Spanish teacher, Senior Chang (Ken Jeong)? Finally, is that really Betty White rapping with Troy and Abed? All these answers (and much more) are found in the hilarious, guest star-filled sophomore season of the breakthrough comedy hit.

In 2009, writer and producer Dan Harmon (“The Sarah Silverman Program”, “Monster House”) and Rob Schrab (founder of the website/channel “101″) created a TV sitcom for NBC known as “Community”.

EXTRAS:

“Community – The Complete Second Season” comes with a slip cover case.

When it comes to comedy sitcoms on television, “Community” is no doubt one of the craziest and most clever shows on television!

Each time I watch this series, I’m just amazed of how far this series takes things in terms of storyline and overall concept.  Who would ever expect to see a show where students are infected by bio-hazardous material and become zombies (ala “Resident Evil”), what kind of show would you expect to see the characters featured ala stop-animation?  Where would you expect to watch a series in which everyone competes in paint ball and who would ever expect to see an episode based on “My Dinner with Andre”?

These are the crazy episodes that you would find in “Community”.  The characters the acting and of course, the writing is absolutely wonderful.

There are not too many shows that are able to take risks or a network giving a series so much leeway to go outside of the box and do something different, but “Community” is a rare series to see the craziest things happen in a sitcom on television.  And interesting enough, the series also ties in with another crazy series on another network.  As with the “Cougar Town” second season, Abed doing a cameo role on the final episode of the series, two characters of “Cougar Town” also do a cameo in the final episode of “Community”.

So, there is so much to rave about of this series.  I love the awkwardness and especially the character dynamics, you can tell the actors are comfortable with each other and it shows, especially in the outtakes.

Needless to say, the second season of “Community” is fun, wild and fantastic and as for this DVD release… It goes way beyond what most TV sitcoms on DVD have done.

Not only does every episode have audio commentary, but there are many outtakes, making of, a remix featurette and more!  With each of the four DVD’s in this box set, there are many special features.  So, fans of the series, you’re definitely getting your money’s worth with this latest release.

Overall, “Community – The Complete Second Season” is probably one of the best TV sitcom box sets that I have come across.  Not many series includes commentary for each episode nor do they go so far into adding so many special features.

A wonderful series and a wonderful DVD box set, “Community – The Complete Second Season” is highly recommended!
