TV TALK: December 22, 2008 – The Hills, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and HEROES

The HillsMTV Shows

My TV watching for the night began with “THE HILLS” (season 4 episode 21 titled “Mr. and Mrs. Pratt”), this was a big episode to show how Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag got married about a month ago in Mexico. Surprisingly, she was drunk when the two got married. So, it was interesting to watch the “The Hills Aftershow” on MTV and btw, Lo Bosworth just looked beautiful (just had to say that) on show. But what was more surprising is the trailers for the upcoming season finale. Heidi’s mother confronts both Spencer and Heidi and the issue of whether their marriage was legal is brought up and also Heidi and Lauren friends again? Definitely, things are going to look quite interesting for this series.

The next was a hilarious episode of “The Big Bang Theory” (Season 2, episode 11 titled “The Big Bath Item Gift Hypothesis”). In this episode, Penny buys Christmas gifts and Sheldon freaks out because that means he has to reciprocate and buy her a gift which leads to a hilarious Christmas shopping experience for Sheldon. The main episode was about a hunky physicist friend of Leonard’s that Penny starts to become attracted to. For Leonard, he doesn’t understand why Penny is all of a sudden into scientific men and never been interested in him when he tried to introduce her to his world. But the episode just ends with a classic moment.

After “The Big Bang Theory” was “How I Met Your Mother” which was about Ted’s sister (former delinquent) coming to town and trying to prevent Barney from having sex with her. Also, Marshall takes Robin to his Vikings hangout but things get out of hand. Another entertaining episode and interesting Christmas songs from Barney.

At 9:00 p.m., it was time for “HEROES” (Season 3, episode 13 titled “Dual”). In this episode, before the series goes into hiatus for two months, Sylar holds Claire, her grandmother Angela, her father Noah and her biological mother Meredith captive. Sylar wants his revenge and people are going to die. Meanwhile at Primatech, the Petrelli brothers Peter and Nathan are now fighting on opposite sides. Nathan wants to use the serum to create an army of supermen while Nathan will do what it takes to stop him and destroy it. Meanwhile, Ando injects himself with the serum and gains a new power. The series is starting to turn very X-Men-ish. But that’s not a bad thing. Things are heating up and really enjoyed this episode. Nathan and Peter against each other…who would of thought that would happen.

I’ll have to rewatch this online as my DVR was set to record until 10:00 p.m., it appears this episode went longer than I expected. So, thank hulu.com!!!

TV Talk: Dec. 1, 2008 – HEROES, My Own Worst Enemy

December 2, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

I began my TV watching at 8:00 p.m. but realized that CBS was airing replays of “The Big Bang Theory” and “How I Met Your Mother”, so checked out ESPN to see the scores of the Monday Night Football game.

Then it was time for “HEROES” at 9:00 p.m. with season 3, episode 11 titled “Eclipse Part 2″.  Wow, what a turn of events in this episode.  It was one thing for Peter wanting to change the future by changing his brother and working with Sylar but without going into too many details, I’m quite surprised to see how the series main characters have headed on to different directions than what we saw in the future.  Again, I bring up the name Sylar.   And I’ll leave it at that.

For “My Own Worst Enemy” season 1, episode 7 titled “Down Rio Way”, the storyline of Edward trying to find out who killed his parents continues.  Meanwhile, Henry tries to fix things between Tom and Mary.

Premiere Party For NBC's

It was a good episode but at the same time bittersweet knowing that there are only two episodes left.  It’s a shame that this show is not being picked up.  I was hoping it would at least continue online for it’s full 13 episodes or even get it on DVD but I guess we’ll find out how this one ends with two episodes left.

TV TALK: Monday (November 17, 2008) – The Hills, The Big Bang Theory, Heroes

November 19, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

I started my Monday of with WWE Raw and with Stephanie and Shane McMahon back, hopefully we can see things changed up for the show.  Especially with the return of John Cena.  First half was pretty good… Cool to see Santino Marella showcase his hip-hop.

Next was MTV’s “The Hills” and in this episode, it was an OK episode.  Heidi’s sister Holly moves in with LC and an interesting squabble between Heidi and Spencer.  Also, Heidi visits her old boss to get her job back.  This is going to be interesting!  Can she keep Spencer away from her worksite as they requested.

The HillsMTV Shows

But the trailer for next episode is the big one as they take on the rumors that nearly destroyed LC and Audrina’s friendship (rumors were that LC messed around with Audrina’s fling Justin). The aftershow featured Audrina as the special guest.

Then off to CBS for “THE BIG BANG THEORY” for season 2, episode 8 titled “The Lizard-Spock Expansion” which features Leonard messing around with a girl that Howard likes. How will Howard react to his Leonard? Another hilarious episode!

Afterwards, it was “How I Met Your Mother”, season 2, episode 9 titled “Wooo!”. Is Robin trying to be one of those “Wooo!” girls that the friends can’t stand?

Then it was time for “HEROES” for season 3, episode 10 titled “It’s Coming”. Ando saves Hiro from Petrelli but there seems to have been some memory loss as Hiro thinks he’s 10-years old. Meanwhile, Sylar and Elle have some unfinished business and you get to see certain people now aligning with others and choosing sides. I actually enjoyed this episode quite a bit! Especially after last week’s flash back episode which I didn’t care too much for. It’s like the X-Men vs. the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants (for the comic book fans out there).

And then it was time for “My Own Worst Enemy” season 1, episode 5 titled “The Night Train to Moscow” in wich Henry thinking Angie may be a spy. Another cool episode and I’ve been reading a few magazines that are hoping this series doesn’t get canceled. I agree! I hope it doesn’t!

All in all, that was my TV viewing for the day!

TV TALK: Monday Musings – 7.10.08 – The Hills, Big Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, HEROES,

November 11, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

My TV watching started at 6:00p.m. for a quick hour of Monday Night Raw which took place in the UK.  Interesting change of events with title changes.  I like the pop that Santino Marella has gotten.  Because he’s one of the most popular to watch on TV, sucks to see him lose his title belt.

On to MTV at 7:00 p.m. for “The Hills”.  For Season 4, Episode 16 titled “Back to New York”, this is an episode that helps set things up for Whitney Port’s upcoming reality TV show on MTV focusing on her life in New York City and working in the fashion industry.  As well as the men she has in her life.

But the interesting part is watching Spencer Pratt confronting Brent of Bolthouse Productions regarding the firing of his girlfriend Heidi.  And Brent not taking crap, really putting Spencer in his place.  Calling him “bad news”.

The Aftershow featured Whitney Port and talking about this episode.

At 8:00 p.m, it was time to switch to CBS for “The Big Bang Theory”.  In Season 2, Episode 7 titled “The Panty Pinata Polarization”, Penny has enough of Sheldon’s rules and decides to see what happens if she pushes Sheldon’s buttons.  Sheldon bans her after her third strike and thus the war is on between Penny and Sheldon.   Another hilarious episode and I swear, this show is my favorite comedy online right now.

At 8:30 on CBS is “How I Met Your Mother”.  In Season 4, Episode 7 titled “Not a Father’s Day”, one of Barney’s one night stands might be pregnant. While Lily and Marshall contemplate having children.  But are any of them ready for a baby?  Another fun episode.

Was totally stoked because the DVD’s for both series are on sale at Target this week.  All three seasons of “How I Met Your Mother” are $14.99 and “The Big Bang Theory” is $19.99.

At 9:00 on NBC was “HEROES”.  In Season 3, Episode 8 titled “Villains”, Hiro is now under the dreamtime and seeing the past in his mind.  We now know why Syler became a killer, we know how the Petrelli father died or who set up the accident for Nathan Petrelli.  We know who Meredith’s brother is and the people who became agents.  Pretty much a setup of what took place months before the first episode of Season 1 of “HEROES”.

The episode definitely tied up some loose ends but at the same time, I felt a little disappointment that everything that has happened was related to other characters.  As if a puppetmaster controlled everyone with the strings.  I was hoping that Syler was that way because he’s psycho.  I did not want to know that he his freakish way was being supported by the agency.  I didn’t like that Meredith and that blue flame villain was her brother and the fact that they worked for the agency.

Why can’t thinks just be left alone without having to be tied to the agency.  It seems that everything is interconnected and why does another Black hero have to die from the show.  Granted, the show has featured many people of different ethnicities and it’s good to see East Asians and South Asians still on the show but the Latinos and Black heroes, tend to get the short end of the stick.  But then again, maybe I was starting to dig another hero with the ability to paint his dreams on the show but to see another just get killed of so easy.

Then at 10:00 on NBC was “My Worst Enemy” which I had to DVR because I had to get back to work.

But that was my Monday night TV talk.

TV Talk: Monday Musings – The Hills, The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother and Heroes (October 20, 2008)

October 21, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

My Monday television watching began with MTV’s “The Hills”.  With Season 4, episode 13 titled “You’ll Never Have This…”, the group goes to Cabo San Lucas for Brody’s birthday.  Audrina wants to enjoy her vacation but because the guy she likes (Justin Bobby) doesn’t want to have a full on relationship, so she’s now with another guy.  But how will Audrina deal with the trip when Justin and the guys want to party up with all these women?  Also, Stephanie introduces her new boyfriend to her brother Spencer and Heidi.

Afterwards, another live aftershow featuring interviews with Lauren Conrad and Brody Jenner.  Also, a sneak peak of Whitney Port’s upcoming show “The City”.

Next up was a new episode of “The Big Bang Theory”. Another fun episode for season 2, episode 5 titled “The Euclid Alternative” in which everyone is getting tired of having to drive Sheldon to work and back home. So, the friends have an intervention in order for Sheldon to get his own personal driver’s license.

Next show up was “How I Met Your Mother” season 4, episode 5 titled “Shelter Island” and it was the big episode featuring the wedding of Ted and Stella. Well, let’s say…not exactly. What happens though when Ted invites his ex Robin and Stella’s ex-husband? I swear…Ted tends to get the raw end of the deal. Quite a bit of adult humor in this episode! Hehe…

Next was “HEROES” with Season 3, episode 6 titled “Dying of the Light” which features another character death in the series thanks to Petrellli father who was revealed in the last episode to be the mastermind of the villains. Tracy and Nathan go to Mohinder for help but start to learn what kind of monster he has become. Hiro and Ando go to Africa under orders to bring back the Dreamwatcher to America. While, Claire and step mom go to rescue Claire’s real mother from the puppet man. Another action-packed episode with another “can’t wait for the next episode” ending.

TV TALK – Monday Night Musings: October 13, 2007

October 14, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

My Monday began with WWE Monday Night Raw on the USA Network and as I flipped from watching the matches and watching the New York Giants versus the Cleveland Browns game.

Needless to say that until John Cena returns to “Raw”, I feel like I’ve been anticipating more of the Santino Marella segments and this latest one didn’t disappoint as the segment featured MTV Jackass star Johnny Knoxville.

As for the Giants versus Browns game, I’m just happy to see the Browns received some much needed synergy by beating the Super Bowl champs in this game. Great defensive play from the Browns!

At 7:00 p.m., I then switched to “The Hills” on MTV which featured Spencer Pratt telling his girlfriend Heidi that it’s either him or her sister that needs to move out of the house. Sure enough, Heidi kicks her sister out. The other big scene is when Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby hang out at the pool and Audrina takes her top off in order to have Justin join her in the pool.

But the hyped “After-show” of “The Hills” which came afterwards was supposedly going to ask Audrina about the much hyped blowup between her and former best friend Lauren Conrad. Supposedly, Lauren and Justin messed around. Lauren has always been grossed out by Justin, so I was quite surprised to see Audrina throw LC under the bus in front of the paparazzi. Of course, the hosts never asked the question which I’m guessing they weren’t allowed to ask that question.

As for the live special guest, it was Spencer Pratt’s sister Stephanie who defended her brother against hundreds of fans who despise Spencer. But I think it was good to see her stickup for her family and give us a little insight of how her family is and also her brother’s love for Heidi. Pratt told the audience that he is so in love with her that if Heidi told her to get tacos in Mexico, Pratt would do just that.

Then I watched the final five minutes of WWE’s Monday Night Raw and a match between Chris Jericho and CM Punk with guest referee Batista. Of course, it’s kind of easy to figure out who wins that.

Then 8:00 I decided to watch “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS. I have to admit that I really love this show! I often miss it but with the DVD box set now out, definitely want to follow up with the series. I dig the geeky humor and the superhero t-shirts.

In this episode, Raj is covered by People Magazine and gets a big head and alienates his friends. But this part of this episode was when Sheldon is forced to smile! This part was so hilarious!

Afterwards, was another favorite show of mine that I rarely am able to catch when it shows on television but on DVD. It’s “How I Met Your Mother” and in this episode, the gang toasts their future and remember their times spent in the apartment before everyone goes their separate ways. Of course, it’s always fun to watch Barney (played by Neil Patrick Harris) use his playboy skills in another interesting way to get laid.

Then at 9:00 p.m. it was time to get ready for “HEROES” with its 5th episode “Angels and Monsters”. In this episode, we learn more about Angela Petrelli and her powers but also the introduction of the evil “puppet man”.

Definitely, another exciting episode for the third season and the trailer for next week is just as awesome! Who is good and who is evil? This will be a great episode to watch!

After “HEROES” was the premiere of Christian Slater’s “My Own Worst Enemy” on NBC. So, far so good! And I definitely recommend everyone checking out this series. You can watch it on hulu.com by clicking here.

TV Talk: Monday Night’s Musings for October 6, 2008

October 7, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Monday’s TV viewing started with USA’s “WWE Monday Night Raw”.  I must of have missed a major pay-per-view battle between Chris Jericho and Sean Michaels because that ladder match seemed brutal.  Jericho with a big red bruise on the left of his lip and part of his tooth broken off.  Of course, for me, watching Santino Morella is the high point of the hour.  The dude is just great on the mic and to insult the Seattle fans of not having an NBA team and sporting the Oklahoma Thunder (formerly Seattle Super Sonics) was amusing.

At 7:00 p.m., I switched to MTV to catch “The Hills”.  The women are hot!  And this episode featured Audrina dating other guys but Heidi’s sister meeting with Lauren to find out if she and Heidi can ever be friends.  Again, Spencer (Heidi’s boyfriend) was just a total dick and the clip for next week’s episode features Heidi possibly choosing Spencer over her sister and giving her sister the boot out of their home.  If anything, interesting debate on the aftershow on MTV.com and also next week, Audrina will make an appearance and I’m sure she will be grilled in regards to the news from Perezhilton.com that LC messed with Audrina’s guy, Justin.  And personally, I just don’t see that happening as LC is totally disgusted with Justin’s appearance and mannerisms.  But Audrina, possibly acting on emotion, lashed out at her best friend to the media and LC wrote on her blog about the whole situation.  Duh-ra-ma!

After “The Hills” was MTV’s “EXILED” in which rich, spoiled teens (featured on “My Super Sweet 16″) are given the heave-ho by their parents to learn that money doesn’t grow on trees and put out of their comfort zone and live for one week in another country (typically with a tribe or very impoverished area) and learn things the hard way.  This time it was Sierra, daughter of musican Cee-Lo where she was exiled to Vanuatu (Island nation in the South Pacific, north of Australia).

Despite not wanting to eat the tribe’s pork and definitely not into the fishing and digging and seeing how women have to live in Vanuatu.  But like all the girls, they eventually have to do work and the first thing I did was check the aftershow to see if she’s changed and learned her lesson.  According to her parents, I guess she did.

I then watched “HEROES” for the fourth episode titled “I Am Become Death” in which Peter from present day is taken to the future by future Peter. You see that those who have the money, have been given powers. Some who use it for good but those who have used it for evil. The world has changed for the worst.

The other interesting development is how Gabriel (aka Syler) has changed. He’s a father and trying to be a good father and has controlled his appetite towards eating the brains of other gifted people with super powers. But what happens when present-day Peter meets up with future-Gabriel?

This show continues to get better with each episode. Definitely leaving behind the second series in the dust and taking the show back to what was important and that is good storytelling. And hopefully unlike the second season, not to be hampered or rushed due to a writer’s strike or any strike.

TV Talk: Monday’s Musings… “WWE Raw”, “The Hills”, “Exiled”, “CHUCK” and “HEROES”

September 30, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

With Monday’s gloomy stock fallout, the day started of with catching some “WWE RAW” on the USA Network.  For me, WWE hasn’t been the same since the Rock left the show but there are some shining stars that are good working the crowd and good with their mic skills.  Right now, the best thing I’ve seen on WWE right now is the Santino Marella.

Each time the man picks up the mic, you can’t help but laugh.  To see the guy appear on talk shows, his humor and what comes out of his mouth…that’s just priceless.  Sometimes I wonder how much is improvised and how much is scripted but it’s totally funny.

As for the women, I’m quite impressed of how along Kelly Kelly has come as a wrestler.  At first, she was just the cute face on ECW but now, she’s become one of the women that is exciting to watch wrestle.  And not sure how much she wants to further her wrestling career training but she’s progressing quite well.

After the first hour, it was time to switch to MTV to watch “The Hills” and interesting show with Heidi Montag’s mother making an appearance and I think this was a long time coming for her to call her boyfriend Spencer as manipulating.  I think the world feels poor Heidi has become brainwashed by her boyfriend and even in a moment of her mother crying, Heidi hardly even reacted.

Of course, the drama was between Spencer Pratt’s sister and Doug.  Doug who was a guy who was definitely looking to get some from Stephanie in the last episode, saying that he was spending time with her because she was like a “lost puppy”.

But the main entertaining parts for me in this episode was Heidi’s mother and watching Audrina go into the pool.  Speaking of Audrina, I had no idea she is a true blonde and interesting blog post from her former neighbor and classmate.

And as for the Hills, interesting after-show on mtv.com on Charlize Theron’s comments about “The Hills” and interesting comments from this week’s episode.

The next show was “EXILED” which MTV has selected the brattiest, spoiled, lazy teenagers featured on “Sweet 16″ that still have the behavior they had now as a young adult, as they had when they were in high school.  So, the show focuses on one person and ships them out to another country for a week and they have to live the life of that teen from that part of the country.

This time the show featured Meleny.  A spoiled rich girl who is sent to Peru and having to live the life of a teenager way up in the Andes mountains.  This episode was probably one of the most defiant episodes of an American teenager not wanting to learn how the other works.  And what was more interesting is to see the Peru teen not take her crap.  In one scene, she tells Meleny how water is important to get from the streams and not drop any of it.  Sure enough Meleny doesn’t care and drops it.  So, she tells her to get another bucket and Meleny continues and the Peru teen, who is getting fed up, throws her bucket and orders her to get the water again and not drop any of the water.  That was so cool to see!

There was one scene though that was surprising and throughout the show, you see guinea pigs running around the house.  I thought these were pets but they were what the family eats.  I would probably have the same gagging response as Meleny.  I’m up to trying different things in terms of cuisine but when its something that could be a house pet, there’s a limit that I just won’t pass.  Well, unless it was for survival I suppose.

Needless to say, I’m glad to see that the experience has made the teen do something in her life.  According to the after-show on mtv.com, she’s volunteering at a souphouse.  Good for her!

Next was “CHUCK” on NBC.  Yvonne Strahovski who plays CIA agent, Sarah Walker is just hot! Nuff said!

Then the show I was excited for and that was “HEROES”. The third episode definitely gets more interesting. We get to know more about who Tracy Strauss is and possibly the fate of Nikki. Also, who is the mysterious African man and is he another painter with visions? The show was another cool episode full of action and look forward to the next. So far, season 3, has been entertaining and look forward in seeing how the season progresses. To see Sylar helping the good guys is quite interesting… Well, he still manages to feast on one of the bad guys. But as for the Petrelli mother, man…she’s evil. All in all, a cool episode!

TV TALK: HEROES Season 3, Episode 1-2 (“The Second Coming”/”The Butterfly Effect”)

September 23, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

Monday night brought us the long awaited “HEROES” Season 3 for a three hour festival starting with the one-hour “Countdown to the Premiere” event.

What was the special about?  As the last minutes before “Volume Three: Villains” tick down, an assortment of special, never-before-broadcast segments will highlight special moments, review key details, and reveal some fun, all-new information about the worldwide phenomena’s past two seasons, including a review of possible suspects in “Who Shot Nathan?”; a peek at how some cool special effects sequences were pulled off; a look at the series’ increasing global popularity and sample of some of the many languages the series has been translated into; an exclusive reveal of the series’ many inside nods to “Star Trek”; and much more.

I really didn’t realize how many references were made to “Star Trek” until watching this fun segment.

But then it was time for season 3…

After watching the first two episodes of “HEROES” to kick of season 3, I just have one word to say… “WOW!”

With the second episode really taking a hit with the writer’s strike and its short duration, one would hope how the series would start off for season 3 and literally, the series starts off with a bang.

The first episode titled “The Second Coming” shows us a glimpse of four years into the future with a dark haired Claire aiming a gun at Peter Petrelli.  You ask yourself, who is the good and who is bad?  Why does Claire have dark hair?  Why is she shooting at Peter?

Most of all, the answer to who shot Nathan Petrelli at the end of season 2 is known.

There were just too many things happening in these two episodes alone that whatever I type, could be a spoiler.  That’s how packed this episode was.  Amazing!

But I will say this:

  • Four years into the future, things get worse. If you thought season 2 opened up with a bleek future, wait until you watch this episode.
  • Another character death – Oh yes, another one bites the dust!
  • Another major character with powers – More characters introduced with powers.
  • Claire and Sylar…oh my!
  • Ando gone bad?
  • The Petrelli’s mother and Sylar…. A connection?  What the…

These two episodes were just incredible and I can’t wait for the next episode.

Watch the episodes now!
