ACADEMY AND GOLDEN GLOBE AWARD WINNER FOREST WHITAKER TO JOIN “EMPIRE”

EMPIRE Returns Wednesday, September 27, at a New Time, 8:00 PM, on FOX

Academy Award- and Golden Globe-winning actor, director and producer Forest Whitaker (“The Last King of Scotland,” “Arrival,” “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”) will guest-star in a multi-episode arc on EMPIRE, beginning this fall on FOX. Whitaker will play “Uncle Eddie,” a charismatic music icon and bonafide hitmaker, who gave an unknown Lucious (Terrence Howard) his first radio airplay. Decades later, Eddie steps up for Lucious at a critical moment during his rehabilitation, and a grateful Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) invites him to produce a song in celebration of Empire Entertainment’s 20th anniversary.

 

EMPIRE returns Wednesday, Sept. 27 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. On the Season Four premiere, Lucious makes his first public appearance after the explosion in Las Vegas, while all members of the Lyon family have their own interests in Lucious regaining his physical and mental faculties.

 

In 2016, Forest Whitaker starred in “Arrival,” opposite Amy Adams; and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” alongside Felicity Jones, Riz Ahmed, Diego Luna and Ben Mendelsohn. In February 2018, he will be seen in “Marvel’s Black Panther,” opposite Chadwick Boseman. Whitaker also had several films in production last year, including “Burden,” opposite Tom Wilkinson and Garrett Hedlund; “The Forgiven,” in which he portrays Archbishop Desmond Tutu, opposite Eric Bana; and “LAByrinth,” opposite Johnny Depp. He currently is filming the streaming feature “How It Ends,” opposite Theo James. Whitaker won the Academy Award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for his portrayal of  Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in the 2006 film “The Last King of Scotland.” He also won the BAFTA, Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Awards in the same category. Other feature credits include “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,” “The Crying Game,” “Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai” and “Bird,” for which he was named Best Actor at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. In addition to his acting career, Whitaker has directed such films as “Waiting To Exhale” and “Hope Floats.” In 2013, he co-produced Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed directorial debut, “Fruitvale Station,” which won the Sundance Film Festival’s Grand Jury Prize and the Cannes Film Festival’s Best First Film Award. Whitaker is the founder and CEO of The Whitaker Peace & Development Initiative, which has branches in Uganda, South Sudan, Myanmar, Mexico and the U.S. He also is the co-founder and chair of the International Institute for Peace, a UNESCO Special Envoy for Peace and Reconciliation and a member of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities.

STAR’s Queen Latifah to Appear on EMPIRE and EMPIRE’s Jussie Smollett to Appear on STAR

On an epic night of music and drama, Carlotta (Queen Latifah) comes face-to-face with Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Jamal Lyon (Jussie Smollett), as the worlds of EMPIRE and STAR collide Wednesday, Sept. 27 on FOX. The special event begins with the Season Four premiere of EMPIRE (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), followed by the Season Two premiere of STAR (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

The night kicks off with EMPIRE (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT). DEMI MOORE TO JOIN “EMPIRE” IN A RECURRING ROLE

EMPIRE Returns Wednesday, March 22, on FOX

Film icon and celebrated actress Demi Moore will guest-star in a multiple-episode arc on broadcast’s No. 1 drama, EMPIRE, beginning this spring on FOX. Moore will make her debut in the Season Three finale, playing a take-charge nurse with a mysterious past, who will become ever more treacherously entangled with the Lyon family in Season Four.

 

Moore joins previously announced actors and musicians who will appear on EMPIRE this spring, including Eva Longoria, Taye Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, Nia Long and Moore’s daughter, Rumer Willis.

 

EMPIRE returns Wednesday, March 22 (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX, when the battle between Lucious and Cookie explodes into their biggest war yet. After launching a deadly missile at Angelo, Lucious announces his new music project, Inferno, and puts everyone on notice – especially Cookie, who then vows to knock him off his throne for good. The two engage in an epic clash – fueled by a history of love, loyalty and betrayal.

Demi Moore is one of Hollywood’s most accomplished and sought-after leading women. Moore’s acting career took off in the 1980s, after starring in “St. Elmo’s Fire.” She then went on to star in such iconic films as “A Few Good Men,” “Ghost,” “Indecent Proposal,” “Disclosure” and “G.I. Taraji P. Henson, Golden Globe-winning star of EMPIRE and the upcoming movie “Hidden Figures,” is back this holiday season to spread cheer, goodwill and some holiday magic in the second annual music and variety special TARAJI’S WHITE HOT HOLIDAYS, airing Thursday, Dec. 8 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT), on FOX.

FOX has renewed the blockbuster drama EMPIRE for a third season, it was announced today by Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group.

 

With 35 nominations, EMPIRE is the most-nominated television series this season, and recently was named a Top 10 Television Program of the Year by the American Film Institute. It was the only broadcast series to earn a Golden Globe Award nomination this year in the category of Best Television Series – Drama. Additionally, Taraji P. Henson won the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama. The series also earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.

 

Having taken TV audiences by storm in its record-setting first season, EMPIRE returned this season as the No. 1 series on broadcast television among Adults 18-49, averaging 7.3/23 in Live+7 ratings, and 21.2 million viewers across multiple platforms.
