January 6, 2009, New York, NY – Hip-Hop artist Lady Sovereign has entered into an agreement with EMI Music Services to distribute her new label, Midget Records. EMI Music Services will handle physical and digital distribution for Midget in the US and UK markets, with the first release being Lady Sovereign’s upcoming album, “Jigsaw,” out April 7th. The track, “I Got You Dancing” is being previewed to fans on her MySpace page during the holiday season this month.
Under the terms of the deal, Lady Sovereign will hold the creative reigns, including A&R, marketing and promotion, while EMI Music will provide distribution, licensing and synch and other services as needed via its global platform.
The 5’ pixie started rapping on pirate radio in London and took the Hip Hop world by storm after being discovered and signed to Def Jam by Jay Z. She went on to sell more than a million units of her single, “Love me or Hate Me,” toured with Gwen Stefani and recorded with Pharrell and The Beastie Boys. Six months after parting ways with Def Jam, Lady Sovereign was back in the studio making beats and rhyming again, working with long-time producer Medasyn.
“I feel great now. I feel like I’ve overcome all my dark times. I get to pick who I want to work with, that’s why I’m in business with EMI,” said Lady Sovereign. “It feels amazing. I’ve got my own label, the support of EMI’s team around the world and everything works my way. Producing other people is another thing I want to do. I know what works and I’d love to A&R someone else’s record. I’ve got a massive confidence that I will put out some amazing artists. And because I’ve got the opportunity to do that now, that’s exciting to me. I’m really looking forward to it.”
“Lady Sovereign is an exciting, creative, eclectic talent and we are delighted to re-connect her with current fans and turn on new audiences with this record,” said Dominic Pandiscia, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Label Services, a unit of EMI Music Services, which provides a full slate of distribution, promotion and marketing services for independent labels and artists around the world. “We look forward to complementing her creativity, energy and passion with our experience and global distribution and service capabilities.”

New site will give EMI a platform to experiment with new digital features
LONDON, 17 DECEMBER 2008 — EMI Music today announced the launch of its new website, EMI.com. The site provides options for fans to discover new music and rediscover their favorite musicians. It also gives artists another platform to showcase their music and videos. EMI.com is one of many ways EMI Music will experiment with new digital platforms in order to develop a deeper understanding of how consumers interact with and experience music online.
“EMI.com is designed to be a learning lab. It will help us gain even more knowledge about consumers’ preferences and choices. Those insights will be invaluable to our artists, helping them respond to fans in a more relevant way,” said Alex Haar, Vice President of Digital Special Projects at EMI Music. “This is the beginning of a longer term experiment. In the coming months, we will continue to add content and features to the site.”
This launch of EMI.com is the first step in a process to better test and learn from the consumer experience. As of today, EMI.com will house a range of information about EMI artists, such as music, videos, photos, biographies and discographies. Fans in the U.K. and U.S. can listen to their favorite songs (in full or in 30 second segments, respectively), watch videos and create playlists. The discover feature of the site helps fans search for tailored music recommendations, by entering artists’ names, including those of non-EMI artists.
Future features, such as the ability to create widgets or to purchase music, will be added to the site in ways that will enable the company to test different values of increasing consumers’ music experience. The site will also be home to free special and unique content from EMI artists, such as interviews, concerts and back-stage visits.
Shamsa Rana, Managing Director of Imdad Capital Ltd., was responsible for designing and implementing EMI.com. Rana also brought in a digital media company, Perform, which built the site.
“With EMI.com, we wanted to build a site that provides a simple, user-friendly experience,” said Rana. “A focus on the fan and passion for the user experience is critical in today’s digital landscape, and that’s exactly what we worked to achieve with EMI.com.”

Tour to coincide with new album set for release on March 31st
Keith Urban, one of country music’s most electric and critically hailed live performers, will hit the road again in 2009 with supporting acts including Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Dierks Bentley, Glen Campbell, Lady Antebellum, and The Zac Brown Band. The upcoming tour, which will kick off in May, comes following the release of his as yet untitled, 5th studio recording. The singer, who wowed fans and critics on his “Love, Pain & the whole crazy World Tour” during 2007-2008, is ready to deliver another pulse pounding NEW concert experience. Tickets will go on sale early next year for the tour that will kick off in May and likely extend through the summer.
“We intend to give people their money’s worth, for sure” said Urban. “We’re looking forward to seeing fans’ reactions to the new material, and we’re seeing how we can put a few new twists on some older material. We’ll play for as long as the venues will let us.”
Critics have lauded Keith as “one of the best reasons in the world to attend a live concert” and have been quoted as saying that “fans would be hard-pressed to find a much better country — or rock — show anywhere.”
Keith recently released a new single, Sweet Thing, which has been one of the top selling Country songs on iTunes since its release. His live concert DVD, Love, Pain & the whole crazy World Tour, is currently available exclusively at all Wal-Mart stores.
