The classic animated Halloween-themed PEANUTS special, “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (OAD on ABC 10/30/01), created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, as well as a bonus PEANUTS cartoon, “You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown,” in which Linus runs for class president, will air THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. The program will air with Spanish audio via SAP.

In the 1966 animated special “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown,” The PEANUTS gang celebrates Halloween, with Linus hoping that, finally, he will be visited by The Great Pumpkin, while Charlie Brown is invited to a Halloween party. Cast members include Peter Robbins (Charlie Brown) and Christopher Shea (Linus). The cast also includes Sally Dryer as Lucy, Chris Doran as Schroeder, Bill Melendez as Snoopy, Kathy Steinberg as Sally, Tracy Stratford as Violet and Ann Altieri as Frieda.

“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” was executive-produced by Lee Mendelson and created and written by Charles M. Schulz. Bill Melendez is the producer and director and Vince Guaraldi is the music composer.

“You’re Not Elected, Charlie Brown” – in which Linus runs for class president with Lucy and Charlie Brown managing his campaign — features Chad Webber as Charlie Brown, Robin Kohn as Lucy, Stephen Shea as Linus, Hilary Momberger as Sally and Todd Barbee as Russell.

On October 2, 1950 the PEANUTS comic strip launched in seven American newspapers. Who would have guessed the impact the brand would have around the world for decades to come. Nearly 60 years later, the comic strip appears in over 2,200 newspapers, in 75 countries and 21 languages. PEANUTS animated specials have become a seasonal tradition and thousands of consumer products are available in virtually all retail channels. Charlie Brown kicking the football, Linus and his blanket and Lucy leaning over Schroeder’s piano are images to which everyone can relate. Such phrases as “Security Blanket” and “Good Grief” have become a part of the global vernacular. Lee Mendelson and Bill Melendez’s association with Charles Schulz stretches back to 1965 with “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” which debuted on CBS in 1965 with Mendelson as executive producer and Bill Melendez as animator and director. The three men continued their long-term association until Schulz’s death, working together on 50 PEANUTS network specials and four feature films. The network specials won five Emmys, two Peabodys and 18 other Emmy nominations.

THE PEANUTS GANG RINGS IN THE NEW YEAR WITH CHARLES SCHULZ’ ANIMATED SPECIAL, “HAPPY NEW YEAR, CHARLIE BROWN”, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 30, ON THE ABC TELEVISION NETWORK

December 13, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The ABC Television Network and the PEANUTS gang will ring in the new year with the animated PEANUTS special, “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,” created by late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, along with “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown,” airing with Spanish audio via SAP THURSDAY, DECEMBER 30 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network.

In “Happy New Year, Charlie Brown,” the PEANUTS gang is ringing in 1986 and Marcie and Peppermint Patty are throwing a big New Year’s Eve bash. Charlie Brown plans to celebrate the holiday by curling up with a big book that weighs nearly as much as he does: Tolstoy’s War and Peace. The book’s weight doesn’t stop him from lugging it to Lucy’s pre-party dance class, where he cuts a mean rug with a rollicking Patty. With just 1131 pages to go, Charlie Brown takes another break, this time for the party, and summons the courage to invite his true love, the little red-haired girl. She doesn’t respond, but hapless Chuck shows up anyway – with Tolstoy in tow. Then he settles down with the book – on a porch swing in a snowstorm, and in so doing, misses the evening’s big surprise.

The cast for “”Happy New Year, Charlie Brown” includes Chad Allen as Charlie Brown, Melissa Guzzi as Lucy, Jeremy Miller as Linus, Kristi Baker as Peppermint Patty, Elizabeth Lyn Fraser as Sally, Aron Mandelbaum as Schroeder and Jason Mendelson as Marcie. The special was executive produced by Lee Mendelson and created and written by Charles M. Schulz. Bill Melendez is the producer. It was directed by Bill Melendez and Sam Jaimes. The music is by Desiree Goyette and Ed Bogas.

In “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown,” disaster strikes as Peppermint Patty heads to her first major ice skating competition with coach Snoopy and faithful companion Marcie by her side. As always, the unassuming Woodstock flies in to save the day.

The cast for “She’s a Good Skate, Charlie Brown” includes Patricia Patts as Peppermint Patty, Casey Carlson as Marcie, Arrin Skelley as Charlie Brown and Bill Melendez as Snoopy. The special was executive-produced by Lee Mendelson and written and created by Charles M. Schulz. It was directed by Phil Roman and produced by Bill Melendez. The music is by Ed Bogas and Judy Munson.

“IT’S THE EASTER BEAGLE, CHARLIE BROWN,” THE TIMELESS PEANUTS EASTER SPECIAL, AIRS TUESDAY, MARCH 31 ON ABC

March 15, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

The classic, Emmy-nominated springtime “PEANUTS” special, “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown,” produced and animated by the late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz and the creative team that gave us many original “PEANUTS” holiday specials, will air TUESDAY, MARCH 31 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network. (Rebroadcast. OAD 3/25/05)

In “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown,” a holiday is coming up for the “PEANUTS” pals, and that means there’s a lot to do. Charlie, Sally, Lucy and Marcie get ready for the big day by making several unsuccessful attempts to prepare eggs for coloring — by frying, waffle-ironing, toasting, roasting and finally making soup out of them — while Linus insists no preparation is necessary. Not to worry, the Easter Beagle steps in to take care of everything!

Starring an unlikely round-headed hero and a unique cast of young characters wiser and wittier than their years, Charles Schulz’s PEANUTS is not just the best-known, most-loved comic strip ever created, but a true global phenomenon. The PEANUTS characters are featured in 2200 newspapers, in classic television specials and on re-mastered DVDs, on stage, in hundreds of books and across the Internet. They have inspired every kind of consumer product from T-shirts to toothbrushes. And while translated into 25 languages, PEANUTS has introduced a vocabulary all its own: “Good grief!,” “security blanket,” “Happiness is…,” “You blockhead!” As PEANUTS approaches its 60th anniversary in 2010, “Good ol’ Charlie Brown” and his inseparable gang remain as fresh and vital as ever.

Over the past four decades, the library of PEANUTS animation has received five Emmy and two Peabody Awards. It has also received one Academy Award nomination, three Grammy nominations and fifteen additional Emmy nominations.

The cast of “It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown” includes Todd Barbee as Charlie Brown, Melanie Kohn as Lucy, Stephen Shea as Linus, Linda Ercoli as Peppermint Patty, Lynn Mortensen as Sally and James Ahrens as Marcie.

The special was created and written by Charles M. Schulz, executive-produced by Lee Mendelson and directed by Phil Roman. The music was composed and performed by Vince Guaraldi.

CHARLIE BROWN VALENTINE’S DAY SPECIAL TO AIR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10 ON ABC

The “PEANUTS” special, “A Charlie Brown Valentine,” produced and animated by the same team that gave us the now classic “PEANUTS” holiday specials and taken directly from the late cartoonist Charles M. Schulz’s famed comic strip, will air with Spanish subtitles via secondary closed captioning, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET), on the ABC Television Network. (Rebroadcast. OAD: 2/14/02)

“A Charlie Brown Valentine” marked the first newly created programming from the “PEANUTS” team in several years. In this special, Charlie Brown finally works up the courage to call the little red-haired girl to ask her to the Valentine’s Day dance. But once again he ends up broken-hearted and empty-handed when he dials the wrong number and reaches Peppermint Patty instead.

Cast members include Wesley Singerman (“Charlie Brown”), Lauren Schaffel (“Lucy”), Corey Padnos (“Linus”), Emily Lalande (“Peppermint Patty”), Jessica D. Stone (“Marcie”) and Christopher Ryan Johnson (“Schroeder”).
