ADELE DEBUTS HER POST-SURGERY VOICE AND TALKS ABOUT HER VOCAL CORD OPERATION FOR THE FIRST TIME – “60 MINUTES” SUNDAY

February 8, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

Singer Says a Phone App Talked and Swore for Her While Her Throat Healed

She couldn’t talk, but she could still curse a blue streak.  Chart-topping singer Adele, under orders to be silent for weeks after throat surgery, found an app that would allow her phone to voice the spicy language she typed into it.  That’s one of the stories the British singer, who is up for six Grammys Sunday night, tells Anderson Cooper in her first interview since that surgery, which she discusses for the first time.  Adele will also sing for Cooper in her first public performance since the operation in a 60 MINUTES profile to be broadcast Sunday, Feb. 12 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

“[Not speaking] was really hard,” says Adele.  “I love talking.”  So she began writing on a pad to communicate after her operation but also found a phone app she was especially pleased with. “I also had an application on my phone that you type the words into it and then it speaks it,” she tells Cooper. “But the great thing is I love to swear. “Most of [the apps] you can’t swear on, but I found this one app where you can swear, so I’m still really getting my point across.”   Watch an excerpt.

Adele’s second album, “21,” has not only sold nearly 17 million copies worldwide, but stayed atop the charts for longer than any album has for almost 20 years.  She was at the beginning of what could be a fantastic career, until her voice just “went” while she was singing live on French radio. “Like someone put a curtain over my throat… and I could feel it. It felt like something popped in my throat,” says Adele.

She found out she had a polyp on her vocal chord that had hemorrhaged. “I had laser surgery. [They] put lasers down your throat, cut off the polyp, and kind of laser your hemorrhage back together and fix it,” says the singer.

Now she says she has never felt more confident in her singing and she demonstrates her voice for 60 MINUTES cameras — the first time since the surgery last November that she has sung for an audience.  But she realizes now her voice has its limits and she could re-injure her vocal chords again through overuse. “If I decide to go on a 200-date world tour, it would happen again,” Adele says.

CBS DAYTIME CELEBRATES VALENTINE’S DAY ON TUESDAY, FEB. 14 WITH EPISODES FILLED WITH LOVE, SWEETNESS AND LOTS OF SURPRISES

February 6, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

“The Talk” To Feature An All-Couples Audience and Will Debut Host Table Made From 500 Lbs. of Chocolate

“The Young and The Restless” Celebrates Cane and Lily’s Long-Awaited Wedding

“Let’s Make a Deal” Gets Musical with the Cast of “Chicago”

CBS Daytime celebrates Valentine’s Day with episodes filled with sweetness, love and lots of surprises, on THE TALK, THE PRICE IS RIGHT, LET’S MAKE A DEAL, THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS and THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL on Tuesday, Feb. 14 on the CBS Television Network.

Chocolate, flowers and jewelry… THE TALK has everything a woman wants for Valentine’s Day.  The show will feature a studio audience exclusively of couples and will debut a completely edible host table made from 500 pounds of Hershey’s chocolate and adorned with Hershey’s candies, as well as a second host table made of only fresh flowers.  There will be many giveaways for the studio audience, plus a big surprise that everyone will be talking about.

THE PRICE IS RIGHT, with host Drew Carey, aims to make Valentine’s Day as romantic as ever, with help from actor Daniel Goddard of THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Prizes include a new home theater for a date night, as well as romantic trips to New York City, Venice, Italy and Paris, and a new Mazda sports car.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL, with host Wayne Brady, celebrates Valentine’s Day with a special performance by the cast of the musical “Chicago.”  Brady will perform “All I Care About (Is Love)” with the group, and together they will award a romantic getaway to New York to see the Broadway version of “Chicago,” complete with VIP backstage tour passes and deluxe accommodations and meals.  Contestants can expect a romantic theme as additional trips will be offered to places like Hawaii, France and a chocolate lovers’ getaway to Carmel, Calif.

On THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS, Cane and Lily (Daniel Goddard and Christel Khalil) fans have the union they’ve been waiting for when the lovers (re)tie the knot in beautiful France.  But an uninvited guest has the potential to put a damper on what is otherwise a joyous occasion.

On THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL, Valentine’s Day is anything but happy for Steffy Forrester (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). Following a knock-down, drag-out fight with her nemesis Hope Logan (Kim Matula), and a very messy chocolate fountain, her estranged husband Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) serves her with divorce papers so that he can marry Hope.

TWO-TIME GRAMMY® AWARD WINNER KENNY LOGGINS JOINS HOST WAYNE BRADY FOR A SPECIAL MUSIC-FILLED, GRAMMY®-THEMED “LET’S MAKE A DEAL,” FRIDAY, FEB. 10

February 6, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

LET’S MAKE A DEAL, with host Wayne Brady, welcomes two-time GRAMMY® Award Winner Kenny Loggins who, along with Brady and LET’S MAKE A DEAL announcer Jonathan Mangum, will perform in a special GRAMMY® Awards-themed show airing two days prior to “The 54th Annual GRAMMY® Awards” on CBS.  The special hour features cars, elaborate vacation packages and GRAMMY®-themed prizes for contestants, airing Friday, Feb. 10 on CBS.

Loggins brings down the house as he performs his hit dance anthem, “Footloose,” for contestants who must Dance for a Deal in order win big prizes.  Brady, along with announcer Mangum, team up for their own musical moments as they sing in the Grammy® Game, in which contestants select CDs identified with particular musical genres.  Brady and Mangum provide the musical clues that can mean the difference between huge prizes – and huge zonks – for these costumed contestants.

In addition to these musical performances, a variety of high-end prizes are spotlighted, including Scion and Ford cars, a special trip to Graceland in Memphis, a New York City trip and tickets to the GRAMMYS®, including attendance at the after-party with the stars.

LET’S MAKE A DEAL is produced by FremantleMedia North America.  Mike Richards (“The Price is Right”) and Dan Funk serve as executive producers.  The one-hour show is broadcast weekdays (check local listings) on the CBS Television Network.
