CAPCOM CONFIRMS NEW RESIDENT EVIL: OPERATION RACCOON CITY AND DEMO VERSION OF RESIDENT EVIL REVELATIONS

March 28, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Latest iterations of horror coming to home console, PC and handheld

San Mateo – March 29, 2011 – Capcom® a leading worldwide developer and publisher of videogames, today announced Resident Evil®: Operation Raccoon City, is in development for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft® and PC. In addition it was also confirmed that the forthcoming Nintendo 3DS™ title, Resident Evil®: The Mercenaries 3D,will ship with a playable demo of Resident Evil® Revelations.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City is collaboration between Capcom and Vancouver based studio Slant 6 Games and is scheduled for release this Winter. Since the launch of the first title 15 years ago the Resident Evil® series has enjoyed phenomenal success, selling over 45 million units worldwide to date. This latest offering will take the series in a completely new direction and offer a style of gameplay yet to be seen from the franchise.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil® 2 and Resident Evil® 3. The setting of the Resident Evil universe not only provides a rich backdrop to the action but delivers a unique and thrilling triple threat battle. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters.

It is September 1998 and the action centers once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella’s actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.

Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favorite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak.

In addition, Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City will deliver a number of competitive online multiplayer modes. Each one of these will provide a unique gaming experience thanks to the three way combat between the Umbrella Security Service, US Special Ops and threat of zombies and B.O.W’s that could only exist in the deadly and twisted Resident Evil Universe.

Purchasers of Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, scheduled for release in the coming months, will get an extra taste of horror thanks to the addition of a playable demo of Resident Evil Revelations. Set on board an ocean liner, the demo lets players take control of one of the full game’s characters, Jill Valentine, as she explores the ship’s dark interior, killing any mysterious creatures that emerge from the shadows. A brand new title built from the ground up for the Nintendo 3DS, further details on Resident Evil Revelations will be revealed at this year’s E3.

Dead Rising 2 DLC Theme Packs Coming Soon

October 7, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

From Capcom:

Just when you thought you’ve dressed Chuck in every outfit imaginable, Capcom’s excited to announce four new DLC Theme Packs that will include a host of new skills, weapons and some great new looks for Chuck. In the next few weeks, Dead Rising 2 players will get a chance to dress up Chuck as either an insane Psychopath, a sleek ninja, a crazy sports fanatic or a kick-ass soldier. Each theme pack will be available to download via the PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE to enhance your Dead Rising 2 experience. What’s more, players can even mix and match the packs they have downloaded – select the Ninja shoes, Sports Fan hat, Psycho jacket and Soldier of Fortune trousers – to get all the abilities each pack offers and create the ultimate Chuck.

Psychopath Theme Pack: Available October 12, 2010
Psycho Chuck will be a zombie’s worst nightmare as his new “insane” look will make him more difficult to kill and give him a host of gruesome weapons including chainsaws, cleavers, axes and more. Zombies won’t stand a chance!

Soldier of Fortune Theme Pack: Available October 19, 2010
With the soldier costume, you can “Rambo out” with double ammo, increased shooting accuracy, more firepower and increased headshot accuracy. Chuck will also have a new special attack when using automatic weapons, spraying zombies with a hail of bullets.

Sports Theme Pack: Available October 26, 2010
For all you sports fans out there, this pack’s for you. Chuck’s damage will increase with sports-themed weapons. The new sports weapons (golf balls, basketballs, etc.) bounce more before stopping, allowing you to hit tons of zombies in one throw. Chuck also has a new charge/tackle attack for taking zombies down in the ultimate blitz!

With the Sports Theme Pack, Chuck will also earn more from gambling, gain more health while eating and drinking (especially alcoholic drinks) and not get sick from drinking too much…

Ninja Theme Pack: Available November 2, 2010
Ninja Chuck will have a new “stealth mode” where the zombies have to be much closer to him to detect his presence. This gives Chuck the upper hand as he is harder to grab and be taken down by hoards of the undead.

Chuck’s damage is increased with sword-type weapons (broadswords, katanas, etc.) that have new special attacks. Stackable items and throwing items (nails, plates, gems, etc.) will also do more damage and Chuck’s throwing speed is increased.

Dead Rising 2 is available now for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For all assets, check out the press center at http://press.capcom.com. And for more info, head on over to http://www.capcom-unity.com

[VG Review] Super Street Fighter IV: Hands on

May 13, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Street Fighter has sure come a long way.  Some of us here remember scrounging up our quarters to play Street Fighter II at the local 7-11.  In another place in time we find ourselves lining up arcade tokens to take a stab at taking down the neighborhood champion.  Now the revolutionary game has gone beyond the arcade cabinets to the limitless HD capabilities of cyberspace and beyond.  With all original characters, the return of favorites from past games, and exclusive new characters, this latest edition promises to satisfy every genre of the Street Fighter legacy.

Game play is superb, as the graphics are as beautiful as they are stylish.  For those who has played the original Street Fighter IV should be pleased to know that their original characters has been unmodified, with the exception of their new Ultra moves.  All characters also have a new set of outfits they can play with.  Capcom has always had a unique style in character design, which is realism with a touch of exaggeration.   SSFIV does a wonderful job at doing this, which makes the characters fun and enjoyable to watch.

New additions to the game would include Bonus Stages, Endless Match, and Team Battle.  The Bonus Stages are almost identical to the ones found in Street Fighter II.  Instead of beating up an old sedan, players get to mash on a SUV among all things.  The barrel stage has made a return on this game, which is very nostalgic to many Street Fighter fans.

Personal Angle:

I’ve always enjoyed Capcom games.  I’ve been playing Street Fighter since part 2 of course, and has been following the game quite religiously since then.  I would probably say, Street Fighter II is the game that turned myself into a gamer.  My favorite Street Fighter games would probably be Street Fighter Alpha 2 (Or Street Fighter Zero 2 in Japan), Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and now Super Street Fighter IV.  Alpha 2 was awesome.  Three levels of Super Combos, Alpha-Counters, and the devastating Custom Combos, made the game quite addicting. Anyhow, now that SSFIV has made its way to home consoles, I have the opportunity to relive this memorable genre of gaming history.

Perhaps one of the most nostalgic components of the Street Fighter series is the character theme music.  I really enjoy the music in these games, especially now that you have the option of switching the stage theme music to the character theme music in SSFIV.  Original character themes have been remixed, and I would probably say this is the best they have done so far.  The game itself has a sort of retro feel to it, which would differ from the original SFIV, due to the opening pop theme song.

Online battle is pretty neat.  Outside of the glitches here and there in internet connection issues, the digital arena is quite a competitive one.  I would probably say I win about 50%-60% of my games using my favorite characters Makoto and Guy (who are very difficult to use!)  Players are very serious on there!  Many really good players.  What usually happens is I fight amongst different people, and normally stay in rooms with those who are around the same level.  Some are pretty friendly so they send friend requests.  Thanks to my brother-in-law, I have this arcade stick which is awesome.

Anyone who is a fan of fighting games will really enjoy Super Street Fighter IV!
