Sharpay Evans is back!

Ashley Tisdale reprises her role as the popular “High School Musical” character in “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” coming out on Blu-ray and DVD on April 19th.

The “High School Musical” trilogy was a big hit for Disney and one would wonder if the film series would continue in someway or form.

Sure enough, we have “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure”, a direct-to-video film which revolves around the rich and naive character of Sharpay Evans (played by Ashley Tisdale).  The film is directed by Michael Lembeck (“Friends”, “Mad About You”, “Veronica’s Closet”) and a story by Robert Horn (“Designing Women”, “Living Single”, “High Society”) and producers of the HSM films, Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.

The film features Sharpay Evans, a year after graduating from high school.  As she (and her dog, Boi) perform at a local event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she is recognized by a talent agent from Broadway who has interest in her and wants her to come out to audition in Broadway for a show starring Amber Lee Adams (played by Cameron Goodman), a star that Sharpay looks up to.

So, Sharpay goes to New York to make it big on Broadway and with the help of her new friend Peyton (played by Austin Butler), the two try to make it in the big city.

With the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure”, J!-ENT’s Dennis A. Amith and other journalists from entertainment media took part in a media Q&A roundtable with actress Ashley Tisdale and actor Austin Butler.

Here is a transcript of themedia Q&A roundtable interview with Ashley and Austin.

Q – Who’s your favorite designer? And which style do you prefer to wear?
Ashley Tisdale: I have a couple of favorite designers, Elizabeth and James, J Brand, Mui Mui, Chanel, Rebecca Taylor, Christian Louboutin. I would say my style is all over the place. It can go from Cali girl to rocker chic and bohemian!

Q – What can you tell us about your character? What’s his secret?
Austin Butler: My character is a film student who meets Sharpay and teaches her the ins and outs of living in the big city of New York. He helps her pursue her dream of becoming a Broadway Star. I don’t think he has any secrets that I know of.

Q – Would you like to be friend of your character in your real life?
Austin Butler: I would like to be friends with Peyton! He’s very supportive and patient. I’m trying to learn from him :-)

Q – Do you have something / anything in common with Sharpay?
Ashley Tisdale: I can relate to how driven she is and I love to perform.

Q – Do you have something / anything in common with Peyton Leverett?
Austin Butler: Peyton is constantly thinking about directing and how he can become a better director. I feel the same way about acting.

Q – Do you miss High School Musical?
Ashley Tisdale: We had so much fun filming those movies. It was one of the best experiences so there definitely are times where I miss working with that cast. The best part is we are all so close, so whenever I’m with them it reminds me of everything we’ve been through.

Q – Who’s the first person you immediately call for a professional and for a personal advice?
Austin Butler: For professional advice I usually call Alexa Vega. She’s been in the business for so long, she always gives great advice. And for personal, I always call my family.

Q – What was the most difficult part to play in the movie?
Ashley Tisdale: I would say starring in a movie is definitely difficult. You have so much pressure and you hold the whole movie together. It’s a challenge. I was so lucky to have been the co-star in the first three movies, I feel like I grew as an actress and I’m now able to take on so much more as a lead actress.

Q – What is the most expensive thing in your wardrobe?
Ashley Tisdale: Definitely my Rolex presidential watch :-)

Q – How can you describe your ideal partner?
Austin Butler: My ideal partner would be a girl who is easy to talk to and has a great sense of humor. I like to watch shows like “The Office” with girls and test their sense of humor.

Q – Will Sharpay’s attitude change in that movie or will we see the same Sharpay? What are the differences between Sharpay from High School Musical and Sharpay from this new movie?
Ashley Tisdale: In the beginning Sharpay is the same girl you know from the High School Musical movies but you get to see through her experiences in New York, that she evolves and grows up.

Q – You have grown up in the movie sets. Have you ever missed a “normal” childhood?
Ashley Tisdale: I went to a regular school growing up and graduated from High School so I got to have all those experiences. I love what I do and wouldn’t give it up for anything!

Q – You are a Californian; do you think you are living a California dream?
Austin Butler: I’m living my California dream for sure! Sometimes I have to pinch myself.

Q – What were the challenges of taking Sharpay from being an antagonist to the hero?
Ashley Tisdale: It was a challenge because she was the character you love to hate in High School Musical, and now in this movie you root for and fall in love with her.

Q – Who did you work best with on the set?
Ashley Tisdale: Austin Butler, just because we we’re in so many scenes together. The whole cast would always go out whenever we had time. I love creating a family on set.

Q – What kind of movies would you like to make in the future?
Austin Butler: I would like to take on challenging characters that I can really sink my teeth into. That and a really cool action movie!

Q – You two worked together on “Aliens in the Attic”. What was it like to go back to work on the same set for this project?
Ashley Tisdale: It was a lot of fun. I was actually the one to mention Austin for the character. We have such good chemistry and have so much fun together it felt perfect.

Q – What is the nicest thing a fan has said?
Ashley Tisdale: That I inspire them :)

Q – Could you imagine dating a girl like Sharpay?
Austin Butler: Sharpay is a really honest girl; she just says what she wants. Sometimes she needs to be more censored, but I think she’s a really sweet girl on the inside. I could see dating a girl like that, but Sharpay is a little bossy for my taste.

Q – Have you ever visited Denmark?
Ashley Tisdale: No I haven’t. I want to so badly though. I want to visit the Little Mermaid statue.

Q – What are your hobbies?
Austin Butler: I play the guitar and the piano. I also recently started boxing and rock climbing a lot.

Q – ‘High School Musical’ was a blast! Did you expect this worldwide franchise success?
Ashley Tisdale: We had no idea it was gonna be so huge! We had so much fun filming it so there definitely was something special, but we couldn’t have imagined all the success it had.

Q – How can you keep in touch with your fans? Are you addicted to social networks?
Austin Butler: A couple years ago, I used to be addicted to MySpace. I’m not addicted to any social networks at the moment. I use twitter to keep in touch with fans now.

Q – What do you feel the High School Musical franchise has brought to the American movie industry?
Ashley Tisdale: I feel like High School Musical introduced the musical genre to a whole new generation.

Q – Like Sharpay, is there a current Broadway musical you’d like to star in? If so, which role and why?
Ashley Tisdale: Right now I want to do more movies. Maybe in the future.

Q – What was it like working with Ashley Tisdale?
Austin Butler: Ashley brings a great energy to set that makes it feel like you’re not working. She’s a really fun girl to be around.

Q – What was it like the first time you met Austin? Did you guys hang out during your downtime? What did you do?
Ashley Tisdale: I met Austin filming a movie “Aliens In The Attic.” We clicked right away. The whole cast would always hang out on our down time. Even when we stopped filming we all stayed in touch.

Q – Do you have any advice for kids who want to get in to show business?

Ashley Tisdale: Follow your dreams. You can’t expect that it’s going to be easy, but if you work hard and keep going anything is possible!

Q – Why do you think Sharpay has become such a popular character even though she might not be the “sweetest” girl in the world?
Ashley Tisdale: I’ve always wondered that. While testing one of the movies, the fans said the reason why they love Sharpay is “she knows what she wants and she goes out and gets it.” They could see that she’s driven which I think is a very good quality.

Q – How would you describe Peyton?
Austin Butler: Peyton is a film student at NYU who is working on a Film Thesis. He has to find one unique New York story for his film. He ends up finding Sharpay on the side of the street, covered in pink, with all these pink suitcases around her, and he thinks she’s the perfect ‘fish out of water’ story. He ends up filming her journey of trying to become a Broadway Star.

Q – Who’s the first person you immediately call for professional and/or for personal advice?
Ashley Tisdale: My Mom and Manager.

Q – Who do you most want to work with?
Austin Butler: I would love to work with Clint Eastwood.

Q – Have you already worn pink again in real life after having shot the movie?
Ashley Tisdale: Pink has slowly gone missing in my wardrobe. I think it’s because I wear so much of it as Sharpay. Now that I’m a brunette I think I can get away with wearing pink again.

Q – How is this movie different from the High School Musical franchise, and how does it keep the same flavor?
Austin Butler: It’s the same Sharpay that you know and love, but she’s taken out of this sort of dream world and brought into the real world. It’s really fun to watch her deal with real world challenges.

Q – It seems to me that you are a dynamic duo, so funny! What`s the best part of working together?
Austin Butler: I love working with Ashley, because we have a great relationship in real life, and when we get on set we can just play.

Q – How can you keep in touch with your fans? Are you addicted to social networks?
Ashley Tisdale: Twitter!!! It’s so easy and I love staying connected to all of the fans.

Q – How cute is Austin? You have worked closely together? Are you good friends?
Ashley Tisdale: So adorable!! He’s one of my best friends.

Q – Which side of the celebrity stuff/world would you throw away? (red carpet, paparazzi, interviews…)?
Austin Butler: I think that paparazzi cross the line a lot of the time.

Q – Do you feel more comfortable as a blond or brunette?
Ashley Tisdale:
I’m more comfortable as a brunette because it’s easier, less maintenance.

Q – Do you keep in touch with Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens?
Ashley Tisdale: Of course! I was actually just with Zac, and Vanessa is promoting her movie right now, but we’re always keeping in touch. We love to go shopping together.

Q – Do you believe in love at the first sight?
Austin Butler: Yeah. I don’t see why not, and I hope to be able to experience it someday.

Q – Ashley tell me, do you like to play the role of Sharpay?
Ashley Tisdale: I love it! The wardrobe, the hair, the fabulousness, LOL!

Q – What were the biggest challenges in producing this movie?
Austin Butler: My biggest challenge was the fact that I was filming so much of the movie on my camera. It added a whole new dynamic. On top of the acting, I had to focus on not getting any of the lights, crew, or other cameras in my frame.

Q – According to you, what is the most important message of this movie?
Ashley Tisdale: To believe in yourself!

Q – I know you’re from California — what do you think of New York? Could you ever see yourself on Broadway?
Austin Butler: I would love to work on Broadway someday! I love New York.

Q – You are also the executive producer of the movie. Is your future behind or in front of the cameras?
Ashley Tisdale: Both! I always want to be in front of the camera, but I love being able to produce as well. Producing is so new for me and I’m still learning.

Q – What is the best part of being an actor?
Ashley Tisdale: For me it’s watching the finished product and seeing it all come together.

Q – Do you have any advice for kids who wants to get into show business?
Austin Butler: Just be persistent, patient, and focus on working hard every day.

Q – What’s it like to be a brunette again? Do you miss the blond?
Ashley Tisdale: It’s much easier being brunette because that’s my natural color. But blonde is fun too!

Q – Where do you see yourself in the future?
Ashley Tisdale: Hopefully doing more movies and producing.

Q – Have you got any other upcoming projects?
Ashley Tisdale: I’m doing a TV show right now on CW called “Hellcats.”

Q – Did you know each other before this movie?
Austin Butler: Yes! Ashley and I did a movie together a couple of years ago called ‘Aliens in the Attic.’

Q – Tell us about your dog. What’s his/her name?
Ashley Tisdale: My personal dog is a teacup Maltipoo, and her name is Maui.

Q – In this movie Sharpay has a very special relationship with her dog, how was it for you as an actress working with a dog?
Ashley Tisdale: It’s definitely a challenge working with dogs. They’re animals so they really don’t understand what’s going on. They’re so cute though. Howie and Herby were awesome to work with.

Q – What is the best part of being an actor?
Austin Butler: I love acting because it’s almost like playing dress up when you were a kid. You can do things you wouldn’t normally do.

Q – As a child did you put posters on the wall of your room? Who was your idol? Did you already meet him/her? If so, how did you react when you meet him/her?
Ashley Tisdale: I had pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio on my wall. I LOVED Titanic and I LOVED him.

Q – You made your breakthrough at a very early age – what would be your advice to a 12 year old girl who wants to be a successful actress?
Ashley Tisdale: Know that it’s not easy, but if you really want to do it, you have to go for it and work hard!

Q – How do you balance your acting career and your regular life?
Austin Butler: My dad lives out in Arizona, so when I get time off I’ll go out there and ride horses, dirt bikes, etc. It keeps me in touch with myself. It’s good to get out of Hollywood and just relax.

Q – You two have worked together on “Aliens in the Attic”. How was it going back to work on the same set for this project?
Austin Butler: It was great because now we’ve known each other for years and have inside jokes and stuff. So we just had a blast.

Q – You have known Sharpay for years but do you think the most important thing for her is love or her career?
Ashley Tisdale: Her career comes first, always!

Q – What is your favorite scene from the movie?
Ashley Tisdale: New York’s Best Kept Secret! It’s the first time you see Sharpay completely vulnerable.

Q – Our readers have a tough time dealing with their first crushes — what insight can you give them from a guys’ point of view?
Austin Butler: I like to just look at it from the other person’s point of view. I think that the key is to take your focus off yourself and put it on the other person. It helps me get rid of nerves and stuff.

Q – According to you, what makes Sharpay so fabulous?
Austin Butler: I think her fabulousness comes from how big her dreams are, how she’s larger than life and, of course, all her Pinkness.

Q – Did you ever have a diary as a child or teenager?
Ashley Tisdale: I had tons of journals growing up. I still do! I love to just write down my thoughts or if I’m inspired by something I write it down.

Q – What do you think is the key to the success of films and series like High School Musical, Camp Rock and now Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure?
Austin Butler: I think music is such a universal language, that it speaks to everyone.

Q – Have you ever been to Denmark or other countries in Scandinavia? And what do you think of the Scandinavian girls and boys?
Austin Butler: I’ve never been to any Scandinavian countries. I have Scandinavian ancestry though. I definitely want to make a trip there someday!

Q – Sometimes Sharpay can be almost too confident, and it seems like she’s trying to cover up insecurities. Did you ever feel like you had to overcompensate for your insecurities, especially when you were younger?
Austin Butler: When I was younger, rather than overcompensating for insecurities I was just really shy. Getting up and doing scenes in front of groups in acting class helped to break me out of that.

Q – What’s the best part of Sharpay? And the worst?
Ashley Tisdale: She’s driven and knows what she wants in life. The worst is that she sometimes goes about it the wrong way.

Q – You’re the executive producer of Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure and I know you’re doing even more things as a producer. What are the other projects that you have or that you’re planning to produce? And how was your work as an executive producer in Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure?
Ashley Tisdale: All the projects I’m producing are in development right now. The network Bravo just picked up one of my reality shows called “Miss Advised.” I’m super excited about that one (again I’m not in the project, just producing).

Q – How did your acting career start?
Austin Butler: I got into doing extra work when I was about 11, and then through that I got comfortable being on set. I met my manager through one of the actresses on a show I did. She then got me into acting classes and got me an agent.

Q – What do you think the High School Musical franchise has brought to the American movie industry?
Austin Butler: I feel like it has introduced kids to musicals and helped them realize how fun they could be. And with the success of all the former High School Musical movies, Hollywood learned that musicals can still be popular. It sort of brought back the musical!

Q – What’s the best advice you have received in your life?
Austin Butler: Some of the best advice I’ve received in my life: Be nice to everyone you meet. Its such simple advice but you can’t go wrong with it.

Q – In this film you had to do two jobs, one acting and one actually filming, as we saw in the bonus feature Austin Cam. Do you now have any interest in the filming side of things?
Austin Butler: I would love to try directing someday! They let me take the camera I used in the film home and I just memorized how it worked. It was a lot of fun!

Q – Austin, any final thoughts on SHARPAY’S FABULOUS ADVENTURE?
Austin Butler: Thank you so much! This was really fun. You guys asked some great questions! I hope you enjoy the movie.

Q – Ashley, any final thoughts on SHARPAY’S FABULOUS ADVENTURE?
Ashley Tisdale: I had so much fun filming this movie. I’m so proud of it and I hope everyone likes it. I have to thank my fans for making this all possible. I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for them.

Just how fabulous do you have to be to make it big in the Big Apple? One aspiring diva is about to find out…the hard way! Ashley Tisdale shines in this totally captivating comedy.

After a talent scout spots her performing with her dog Boi at a charity gala, Sharpay Evans (Tisdale) sets off for the bright lights of NYC, convinced instant fame and fortune are in the bag (designer, that is). But the theatre is a dog-eat-dog world, as she and Boi discover when they encounter the devious owner of a pampered Pooch named “Countess” and a scheming Broadway starlet who will do anything to crush the competition. Fortunately, Sharpay also meets Peyton (Austin Butler), a handsome student filmmaker who finds Sharpay nearly as fascinating as she finds herself.

The film begins with Sharpay Evans, a year after graduating from high school.  As she (and her dog, Boi) are performing at a local event in Albuquerque, New Mexico, she is recognized by a talent agent from Broadway who has interest in her and wants her to come out to audition in Broadway for a show starring the popular Amber Lee Adams (played by Cameron Goodman), a star that Sharpay looks up to.

Sharpay looks at this opportunity as what she has dreamed about and wants to go New York for the audition but her father (played by Robert Curtis Brown) is dead set against it.  But her father is willing to compromise and gives her one month to make things happen and if she is unable to, she would have to come back home and work at the Country Club and work a “real job”.  Fortunately, her mother (played by Jessica Tuck) knows someone in New York who has a son that will help her out.

So, Sharpay and her little dog Boi are off to New York to make things happen in Broadway but her first day in New York doesn’t go as planned.  The apartment that she would be staying in does not allow dogs and Sharpay insists that if her dog Boi goes, she goes.  And sure enough, she loses the apartment.

Meanwhile, while sitting outside the apartment, a film school student named Peyton Leverett (played by Austin Butler) catches his eye and he begins filming her.  He tells Sharpay that he needs to shoot something interesting and unique in New York as part of his school project.  As she explains to him of her problems of not having a place, both eventually find out that their mothers know each other and he is the one that was sent to meet with her.

So, Peyton agrees to help Sharpay with moving to a studio apartment (same building where he lives) if she will continue to be the star of his short film.  She agrees and both become friends and Peyton shows her around New York City.

When both go to visit the casting agent, the agent informs that Sharpay didn’t look over the information completely and the Broadway play that the audition is not intended for her but it is for her dog Boi.  A bit upset that she went to New York thinking that the audition was intended for her, not wanting to come back home and work for her father, she feels that possibly if she takes Boi to the audition for the Broadway play,  it will eventually lead to more opportunities for her and also giving her a chance for the casting director’s to see her act and sing.

So, eventually Sharpay takes Boi to audition for the part and both are able to win the heart of the show’s casting director and scribe and as everything looks like Boi would win the audition, here comes the mature 12-year-old, Roger Elliston III and his dog named Countess.  And showing that countess can perform on stage and is experienced and eventually winning the attention of the director and scribe.

But with two very talented dogs, they don’t know which will win the part and so actress Amber Lee decides to test them both out and see who is more deserving.

Both Sharpay and Roger want the part for their dog and they eventually compete and sabotage each others audition whenever the dog is alone with Amber Lee.  But as Sharpay and Roger continue their bad blood towards each other, both don’t realize that their dogs Boi and Countess are falling love.

Needless to say, for Sharpay, just being in the presence of her favorite star Amber Lee is huge for her and while Sharpay looks up to Amber Lee, as both are nearly alike.  Behind-the-scenes, we learn that Amber Lee is actually a very mean-spirited, self-centered person who uses people.

One day, Amber Lee goes ballistic and fires her assistant and now in desperate need of another assistant, she uses Sharpay and makes her think that she is helping her and her Boi by bettering their chances to win the audition but in truth, Amber Lee just wants to use Sharpay and have her as an assistant.

And as Amber Lee continually uses Sharpay to the point that Sharpay is at her beck-and-call almost 24/7, she has no time to shoot the short that she promised Peyton, nor does she have time to be around her dog during auditions (in which Roger continues to sabotage Boy’s chances of being selected for the audition).

Needless to say, her friend Peyton becomes concerned, knowing that Amber Lee is using Sharpay and when he tells Sharpay about how he feels about her working with Amber Lee, instead of listening, Sharpay goes ballistic on Peyton and telling him that at least she’s working with a major actress and he’s nothing but a college student trying to make a short film.  Sharpay hurts Peyton’s feelings and eventually ending their relationship.

Now with only a few weeks to make things happen in New York City, will Sharpay be able to make her dream happen in New York City?  Or will the star that she idolizes prevent her from reaching stardom?

VIDEO:

“Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” is presented in 1080p High Definition (widescreen 1:78:1). Similar to the “High School Musical” films, Sharpay as always sports the hot pink, red, white and turquoise colors and in the film, the one word you can used to describe the picture quality of this film is vibrant.

But typically when you deal with a lot of reds and hot pinks, some films are going to display banding and in the case of “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventures”, there are times which banding is noticeable. And this is where the PQ has some issues. There are times that I felt I did see some artifacting but these were during the times of high red colors and it was mixed with banding but for the most part, for its intended demographic, I don’t think the audience will probably be too nitpicky and will find the picture quality to be good.

Skin tones are natural, you can definitely see the detail of clothing and the sheen of Sharpay’s rhinestones.  Blacks are nice and deep but for the most part, “Sharpay’s Fabulus Adventure” is a colorful film.

AUDIO & SUBTITLES:

“Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” is presented in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, Spanish Dolby Surround and French 5.1 Dolby Digital.  While the film is primarily dialogue-driven and is clear and understandable, the film does feature a soundtrack which includes six tracks showcasing Ashley Tisdale, HSM’s Lucas Grabeel singing Justin Bieber’s “Baby” (note: “High School Musical” star Lucas Grabeel is not in this film) and also a cover of “Walking on Sunshine” by Aly & AJ.

Subtitles are in English SDH, Spanish and French.

For fans of “High School Musical”, if you were a fan of Ashley Tisdale’s character Sharpay Evans, then “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” will no doubt appeal to you.  And the fact that you have HSM producers Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush does help.

But for those who were so used to Kenny Ortega’s fun style utilizing an ensemble cast to perform various musical numbers, “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure” does have a musical number (“The Rest of My Life”) with a group of people featured at the end of the film but most of the music featured in the film are Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay) solo songs .

Although related to a “High School Musical” film, this is primarily a Sharpay film and showing her maturity and what happens when she tries to make it New York City but also encounters someone like herself and wanting to not be like her.  If there was only one thing that I didn’t like and maybe the kids might find it more appealing is the second storyline featuring Boi and Countess falling in love.  As much as I don’t mind dogs falling for each other, as we have seen it with Disney’s “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”, I was

Granted, I’m sure those familiar with Broadway may scoff at a storyline about Sharpay and her dog and may find it a bit kitschy but I want to emphasize that this film is not exactly targeted towards adult viewers, while its intended viewership are the younger viewers, the Disney Channel fans who have watched Ashley Tisdale on “High School Musical” and “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”.

I know that many fans were wondering which “High School Musical” cast member was going to make an appearance but unfortunately, I didn’t see any cast member show up (note: I may have missed it) but I do know that fellow HSM cast member Lucas Grabeel who plays Sharpay’s brother Ryan Evans in “High School Musical” does have a song in the film, singing a cover of Justin Bieber’s “Baby”.

For those who are familiar with Tisdale’s work on “High School Musical” and even “The Suite Life of Zack Cody” will definitely enjoy the humor in “Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure”.  Those not familiar with “High School Musical” may have a problem with the film, especially if they do not know a thing about her character.  If anything, I did enjoy that her character was explored even more and to see her character grow up a bit in this film.  I wish there was more focus on Sharpay and Peyton and not involve the storyline of the two dogs falling in love.  But again, I’m not exactly the demographic that this film is targeted for and the children may find the addition of the dog romance to be cute and enjoyable.

As for the Blu-ray, it’s a good release but I wish there were more special features or even an audio commentary track by Ashley Tisdale.  It’s important to note that there are two versions on Bu-ray being released.  A 2-disc combo pack featuring the Blu-ray and DVD and a special 3-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack which comes with a digital copy and a limited edition pink clutch purse.

Overall, If you are fan of Ashley Tisdale or her character Sharpay Evans, this film is definitely for you.  It’s nothing like the “High School Musical” films but it does explore her character a bit and for the most part, it’s an enjoyable film for children and the entire family.

Since 2007, “Phineas and Ferb” is an animated show that has been entertaining children on the Disney Channel with its running gags, interesting and hilarious characters.  With each episode, Phineas and Ferb are both working on a project and each time, their sister Candace is always scheming to finally bust them.  Meanwhile, the evil scientist Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz is up to no good and Major Monogram and the secret agent Perry the Platypus (Agent P) are doing all they can to stop Doofenshmirtz.

With the Christmas holiday season around the corner, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is releasing “Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas” featuring six episodes and plenty of special features.

The main characters of “Phineas and Ferb” are:

  • Phineas Flynn – One of the main protagonist of the show who joins his stepbrother Ferb in various projects.
  • Ferb Fletcher – The intelligent step-brother of Phineas who is from England and although quiet he happens to be an engineering genius.  He also has a crush on Vanessa Doofenshmirtz.

  • Perry the Platypus - The pet of the Flynn-Fletcher family and is thought of being useless.  But the truth is that he is a special agent working for the O.W.C.A. (Organization With a Cool Acronym) and is constantly battling hisnemesis Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz.
  • Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz - A mad scientist and father of Vanessa Doofenshmirtz.  his goal is to wreak havoc or take control of the Tri-State area.
  • Isabella Garcia-Shapiro – A friend of Phineas and Ferb and has a crush on Phineas.  Also, has skills to help the boys courtesy of her involvement with the Fireside Girls.
  • Major Monogram – The head of the O.W.C.A. and responsible for sending Perry out on missions.
  • Linda Flynn-Fletcher – The mother of Phineas and Candace and step-mother of Ferb.
  • Baljeet Rai – The Indian-American neighbor of Phineas and Ferb and is very smart but constantly bullied by Buford.
  • Buford Van Stomm – Because of his size, he is looked at as a bully but the truth is that he’s a nice kid who tries to act tough.
  • Lawrence Fletcher – Father of Ferb and step-father to Phineas and Candace.

“Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas” comes with the following episodes. Included are:

  • Oh, There You Are, Perry (Season 2, Episode 64) – Parry is re-assigned to a new villain, meanwhile the boys think that their pet platypus is missing and Candace blames herself for Perry’s disappearance.
  • Chez Platypus (Season 2, Episode 56) – Phineas and Ferb open a platypus-themed restaurant.  Dr. Doofenshmirtz dates a woman who is also interested in evil things.
  • Perry Lays an Egg (Season 2, Episode 57) -  Phineas and Ferb find an egg and think it belongs to Perry.  Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz wants revenge against the whales.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Phineas and Ferb” is presented in widescreen (1:78:1) – enhanced for 16×9 televisions and is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and French and Spanish Language Tracks and subtitles.

“Phineas and Ferb” sports vibrant colors and for the most part, picture quality should be fine for the children.   If anything, the series is known for its unique character design and for the most part, the animation is quite enjoyable to watch because it’s quite different with the characters and their geometric shaped heads.

Dialogue and music are clear and are heard clearly through the front and center channels.  Subtitles are in English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

“Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas” comes with:

EXTRAS:

“Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas” comes with a slip over case.

At our home, somehow “Phineas and Ferb” has become my 7-year-old son’s favorite animated series.  Every day he watches the show and interesting enough, I can hear both he and my wife singing the show’s theme song and even my wife has talked about how she enjoys watching “Phines and Ferb” alongside with him.

As for me, I knew nothing about the show and I felt like a kid asking my son many questions of who is that character and that character and what is the plot of the series?  So, this DVD was actually my first foray into the world of “Phineas & Ferb” and for my son, this DVD was in his words…”Awesome!”.

Because truthfully, I just thought it was a special Christmas episode and then when that episode was done, there were five more episodes to watch.  And then you get to the main menu and there are Easter Eggs hidden throughout the menu, special features and you get another bonus episode of “Phineas and Ferb”, how cool is that?

Although, I may not have grasped the concept of why Phineas and Ferb’s older sister Candace is trying to bust her little brothers or why there is a secret agent platypus, I realize that this series is beloved by many, and my young son and my wife are among that demographic who love this series so much that I hear them singing the theme song nearly daily.

The episodes I did watch were fun but of course, my son can probably give the best description of this DVD and he just had one word to describe this DVD and that was “awesome”!

As a parent, the episodes were safe and fun to watch and I have to admit, for a children’s DVD, Disney has definitely released an impressive package with six episodes of “Phineas & Ferb” and many special features to go along with this entire DVD.  I was very impressed by this DVD and I can definitely recommend this to parents or grandparents who want to keep their children entertained during the holiday season or a DVD for them to watch during those long holiday commutes.

Overall, this is a solid release of “Phineas and Ferb” which fans of the series can’t go wrong with it and really, there is nothing I can even fault or say anything negative about because you get so much in this DVD release.  For fans of “Phineas and Ferb”, “Phineas and Ferb: A Very Perry Christmas”, my son gives this DVD five stars and a very big “AWESOME!”.

Extremely fun, entertaining and hilarious hijinks galore!  An entertaining film for the whole family!  As for the Blu-ray, solid picture quality and an impressive lossless audio soundtrack.  Overall, a solid Blu-ray release!  And for those curious about the film or those who enjoyed it, the Blu-ray release is definitely worth checking out!

The summer 2009 adventure family film “Aliens in the Attic” will entertain you with it’s kid-friendly comedy, not so much reliance on the grownups and a film that manages to capture  the time of youth and adventure.  The film has made over $56 million worldwide and now its set for a release on Blu-ray and DVD.

The film is directed by John Schultz (“Bandwagon”, “The Honeymooners”) and features a screenplay by Mark Burton (“Madagascar”, “Chicken Run”, “Wallace & Gromit in the Curse of the Were-Rabbit”) and Adam F. Goldberg (“Still Standing”, “Aliens in America”, “Fanboys”).  The film features music by composer John Debney (“Hannah Montana: The Movie”, “Swing Vote”, “Evan Almighty”) and a screenplay by Don Burgess (“Enchanted”, “My Super Ex-Girlfriend”, “The Polar Express”, “13 Going on 30″).

“Aliens in the Attic” revolves around the Pearson family.  Tom Pearson (played by Carter Jenkins, “Viva Laughlin”, “Surface”, “Bad News Bears”) is an intelligent person who is great a computers and a hacker.  On the day that his parents Stuart (played by Kevin Nealon, “Saturday Night Live”, “Weeds”, “Grandma’s Boy”) and Nina (played by Gillian Vigman, “The Job”, “The Hangover”, “Sons & Daughters”) were checking up on his grades online, they noticed that his grades were changing.

Meanwhile, Tom’s sister Bethany (played by Ashley Tisdale, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody”, “High School Musical”, “Phineas and Ferb”) tries to sneak in through his bedroom window after her big date with her boyfriend Ricky Dillman (played by Robert Hoffman, “Step Up 2: The streets”, “The Onion Movie”) who Tom can’t stand.  While his little sister Hannah (played by Ashley Boettcher) tries to warn them that their father is upset and coming to see him, Stuart tells Tom that he needs to stay away from his computer, do better in school and he will have to go on the family trip for a day of fishing and staying at home that they leased for the summer.

While the Pearson family made it to the home that they are staying, they are greeted by Stuart’s mother Nana (played by Doris Roberts, “Everybody Loves Raymond”), his brother Nathan (played by Andy Richter, “The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien Show”) and his children Jake (played by Austin Robert Butler, “Ruby & the Rockits”) and the video game playing twins Art and Lee Pearson (played by Henri and Regan Young).

For the two families to meet each other again for this vacation, its apparent that Tom and Jake don’t quite get along as Jake is younger but more dominant and tougher than Tom.  And to make things worse for Tom, Bethany’s boyfriend Ricky has also schemed his way into being a guest at the home.  Jake convinces Tom to take action against Ricky and use his paintball gun to get him to leave the premises.  But of course, it all backfires and Tom’s parents feel bad for him and Tom gets another lecture.

As the whole family try to enjoy their vacation, because the TV stopped working, Ricky volunteers to fix the satellite but wants Tom to join him upstairs.  Meanwhile, we see a spaceship(s) arrive on top of the house.

While upstairs, Ricky tells Tom that he is lying about his intentions of coming to their house and that he is also not a high school student but a man no longer in school.  And to get back at Tom for the paintball incident, Ricky forces Tom to fix the satellite himself.  And as Tom check on the satellite, he sees that the dish has been destroyed.  Jake joins Tom on the roof and is surprised about the damage caused to the dish but then things go crazy as a shadow of some creature shows up on the wall.  As they turn around, they are greeted by four mean aliens: The leader Skip, the warrior Tazer, the intelligent engineer named Sparks and a female named Razor who want to capture both Tom and Jake

As Ricky, tries to talk to Tom, not knowing there are aliens behind him, he is shot by a dart on the back of the neck and is now being controlled by the robots.

Meanwhile, all children come in contact with the aliens and now the war is on.  Aliens work up a strategy to get to the basement in order to find a device that will call down its alien fleet to attack the Earth, while the children do what they can to prevent it from happening.

Will the kids be able to stop the aliens in time?

“Aliens in the Attic” on Blu-ray comes with two discs, the original Blu-ray with the film and the special features and a second disc which contains a digital copy of the film.

VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Aliens in the Attic” is featured in 1080p High Definition (widescreen 1:85:1, AVC@22MBPS).  With a good number of scenes are shot during the day, the colors are vibrant and even indoors, inside the house there is good enough lighting that you do see the detail in the homes, destruction caused by the children and the aliens.

Audio is presented in English 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio (also Spanish and French 5.1 Dolby Digital) and this is where “Aliens in the Attic” shines.  Dialogue and music is front and center channel driven but it’s the good amount of LFE that you hear during the action sequences that catch your attention.  Especially at the end when you hear the stomps with that deep bass coming out of your subwoofer, almost reminiscent of that “Jurassic Park” T-Rex stomping, a good amount of that during the action sequence at the end.  Especially during the implosion of a machine where you hear this long reverberating sound that sounds really nice.  I didn’t hear any major use of panning or any significant surround usage, especially with the rear surrounds but for the most part, for a kid-friendly film, good use of lossless audio during the action sequences.

Subtitles are featured in English SDH, Spanish, Portuguese, Cantonese and Thai.

SPECIAL FEATURES:

“Aliens in the Attic” comes with the following special features:

  • Introduction to Film with Ashley Tisdale – (:20) Introduction shown beginning of the presentation of the film and also included in the special features.

The film also comes with a digital copy “Aliens in the Attic”.

I watched “Aliens in the Attic” with my six-year-old son and both of us enjoyed it.  Personally, I think that there are going to be a lot of children films that touch upon fantasy and once in awhile, it’s good to have these type of films where the parents are not too important to the plot but it’s the children working together to take on the enemy.  Personally for me, it reminds me of the zaniness of a film such as “The Goonies” but for a more younger demographic that know their video games, know who Ashley Tisdale is and for adults, a film to just watch and enjoy without having to critique how the CG doesn’t compare to the latest Pixar film or how this film did not screen for critics.

The kids bring some charm to the film.  You have Carter Jenkins playing the very intelligent Tom Pearson, but in the beginning, tries to shave off his “book smarts” because it’s not cool and in the end, I personally though the message with his character was quite positive for children.  Being smart doesn’t mean you’re not cool.  Austin Robert Butler as Jake Pearson, the child who thinks combat/strategy is a predictable gung-ho character (especially when he owns an expensive paint ball machine gun, you know where that’s going).  For the video game fans, the twins Henri and Regan young reaches out to those who know their video games.  From one sporting the old school Activision shirt, to them using their video game skills during the body control parts of the film.  And dare I say, I had fun seeing the “Street Fighter 2″ Shoryuuken and spinning kick move that the kids use on Doris Roberts character Nana.  And Ashley Boettcher as the young Hannah Pearson who is the cute innocent young girl who befriends an alien, ala young Drew Barrymore who played Gertie on “E.T.”.

Ashley Tisdale provides that young star power for those who are familiar with her Disney Channel TV shows or her films and also her music.  But the shining star happens to be her boyfriend Robert Hoffman, who portrays the craziest role when he gets controlled by the aliens and later on by the kids.

As mentioned earlier, the adults do not play a major role in this film.  Sure, we have former “Saturday Night Live” cast members Kevin Nealon and Tim Meadows and “Late Show with Conan O’Brien” sidekick Andy Richter and also actress Gillian Vigman.  But the adults do not really interfere in the film but you do get to see “Everybody Loves Raymond” actress Doris Roberts as the grandmother Nana Rose Pearson being mind controlled and the video game twins use her a fighting video game-like character.  Sure, it’s corny but for fighting video game fans who recognize the fighting moves, you can’t help but laugh and root for grandma.

But the hijinks are hilarious, the characters are fun and my son enjoyed the film as well.  Personally, I figured that I grew up with such 80′s films as “E.T.”, “The Goonies”, “The Monster Squad”, where kids work together to take on an enemy.  Sure, we have that now with a few adventure films but it’s good to have something different (especially when its aliens) and a film that is not so serious.

As for the Blu-ray, personally, I enjoyed the Blu-ray release.  I thought the picture quality was good and the audio quality especially the utilization of LFE (especially at the end) was a nice tough for the audiophiles. And for the Ashley Tisdale fans, there are a good number of special features for you.

Parents who are wondering if this is suitable for children, I think four years and older would be fine.  It’s not a scary film at all but perhaps the sight of green aliens with sharp teeth may be a bit scary for them.  But for the most part, this is a kid friendly film.

Overall, “Aliens in the Attic” is not as adventurous as “The Goonies” or “The Chronicles of Narnia”, emotional as “E.T” or dark as “The Spiderwick Chronicles” but the film does well for its own as a kid-friendly film with a fun group of young characters trying to fight off four aliens who are trying to trigger an alien invasion.

“Aliens in the Attic” is an enjoyable family film that is fun, hilarious and entertaining, especially if not taken too seriously.   Overall, a  film definitely worth giving a try!
