- ヒトヒラのハナビラ (Instrumental)
Stereopony has definitely caught a lot attention worldwide through their debut CD single “Hitohira no Hanabira”.
The rock trio from Okinawa consists of Aimi (Lead vocalist and lead guitarist), Nohana (bass) and Shiho (Drums) gained recognition from performing on the Japanese rock radio program “School of Lock!”. Not long after, the group were signed on Sony Music Records Inc. sub-label gr8! Records. The CD single would receive an anime tie-in as the main track “Hitohira no Hanabira” was used as ending theme for the popular anime series “BLEACH”.
The three vocal tracks “Hitohira no Hanabira” (A Single Flower Petal), “Nyami” and “Yukan na “Funny Friends” are overall upbeat rock tracks (the fourth track is an instrumental version of “Hitohira no Hanabira”) that harkens to memories of former rock bands ZONE and Whiteberry. Each track showcases the group’s harmony and music playing, especially Aimi’s guitar playing. Although, I would love to see if their music playing that we hear on this CD single translates the same coolness via live.
The CD insert is a bi-fold featuring a picture of the trio and lyrics and production credits in the interior of the insert. Included is a sticker from the animation “BLEACH”.
Since the release of “Hitohira no Hanabira”, the trio have released a total of three CD singles, their second release “Namida no Muko” was used for the opening theme of the anime series “Gundam 00″ and their third CD single “I do it” featured a collaboration with Sony pop star Yui. Their first full-length album “Hydrangea ga Saiteiru” was released in June 2009.
Overall, “Hitohira no Hanbira” is an enjoyable CD single and Stereopony is definitely one of my favorite female rock bands from Japan at this time.
