While I have not invested in a LEGO train at this time, I decided that for now, it would be a safe step to try out the LEGO CITY – Train Station (60050).  Featuring a total of five LEGO minifigures, a taxi and four connecting railroad tracks, it was a set that caught my interest because of its variety of parts, accessories and more!

The set itself took me about an hour and half to complete.  The set is fairly easy to complete but there are concerns that I have for this set which I will go into more in my review.

Let’s first start with the minifigures.  You get a conductor, a chef, a taxi driver and two travelers.    The chef is very cool looking as he comes with his chef hat, a tong which holds a sausage.  The conductor comes with a train conductor sign, one of the guys holds a briefcase and the other with a newspaper.

While the characters are somewhat original, the woman minifigure has a top similar to the “Decorating the Tree” minifigure.

But I like the variety of the minifigures featured in this set which is a plus!

The taxi is quite interesting because while a vehicle is a good addition to the set, it really has no place to be used in the set unless it’s parked in the back or the far side.  Placing the character is easy by removing the top of the Taxi but the vehicle is easy to put together and if anything, it’s great to have a yellow taxi included in this set, as it can be re-used in any other LEGO CITY sets!

For a playset, children or the young at heart, will probably remove the top portion and the tracks to utilize the building and placing characters in various spots.  While the bottom portion are connected carefully and will stay together if kept on a flat surface, carrying it with your fingers can literally break this set apart.

Unlike buildings or homes where pieces of a foundation are locked in and stable and you can easily transport it.  Because of the large width of this set, you are going to need two hands to hold this set, otherwise one hand will make one side heavier and this set can easily break apart.  So, you really need to be careful if you put things together and want to move it around.  The support beams on the side are not strong enough to stay in place because they are attached to a few pegs.  I wish those beams would have taken two rows, so they provide better stability and wouldn’t collapse so much.  I felt that most of my time, I was trying to put those beams back on as they kept coming off.

The rear is pretty cool as it has steps and you are presented with two rooms, a restaurant with coffee and a croissant on the stove.  While the other side features a LEGO store.  The other side has an ATM and I placed the bike rack on the other end.

As I liked the fact that it had two stores, I would have made the center have seats or tables or even a sign display.  It’s too plain and would have liked something extra in the center, may it be an accessory, sign or anything but nothing.

I like how the food vendor has the glass windows.  You can see the croissant and the coffee maker, plus the computer/cash register.  You have a green trash can over to the side and also a camera above.  I enjoy the stickers for the menu segment.  But overall, it was cool to have a food vendor in this set.

I wish bus terminals or train stations had LEGO shops, but this shop is a welcomed addition to this set.  The back portion with the LEGO themed wall is cool and this segment also has a computerized cash register.

The opposite end has seats next to the trash can.  I felt the bike rack was best placed in the empty section.  But this corner makes for a good lounging area.

The set adds fine touches such as the hanging destination signs and the clock.   The connecting railroad tracks are also a fine addition, especially if you own a LEGO train set and want to add the tracks and connect this Train Station to your pre-existing track set.

Overall, the LEGO CITY – Train Station (60050) is a wonderful purchase for those who own any LEGO train-related set and want to connect this segment to their tracks.  It’s a magnificent addition as many want to see more set additions to the train sets.

While the taxi probably doesn’t belong with this set, it’s a welcomed addition for LEGO CITY collectors because now they have a taxi that can be utilized for their sets, especially the building modulars.

The minifigures offer great variety and the shops are pretty cool and if anything, the Train Station is a very cool set!

But I do have concerns with this set in terms of stability.  The supporting beams need to be better refined with an attachment that allows it to lock in place on two rows of studs on the building bricks. The beams easily come off the pegs and often when they do, something comes off and that can get a bit frustrating.

But possibly the most frustration I had with this set is the bottom segment.  While the top portion is locked onto the foundation, the foundation itself is not perfect.  You will want to transport this set using two hands, as any unbalance can easily send your set crashing down to the floor because of the lack of stabilization.

In fact, I probably may look into purchasing more parts for this set in hopes to find a way to have better stabilization on the bottom flooring of the Train Station.  If not for its stability of the beams and the bottom support for the overall set, I would have given this a pretty good rating, because the Train Station is awesome!

But the problems I experienced with stabilization can easily get frustrating especially if you have to rebuild the station again.

But other than that, because this set offers so much, I do recommend it to the AFOL who can find better ways to stabilize the section underneath the flooring.  I recommend it for those who are purchasing anything that is a LEGO train, as the train station makes a great addition to a train set and its surrounding.

Overall, the LEGO CITY – Train Station (60050) is recommended!
