New York, NY (November 2, 2011) – Dior, The Weinstein Company announced today, in partnership with Bert Stern, Staley-Wise Gallery and Milk, an exhibition of photographs of Marilyn Monroe titled “Picturing Marilynâ€.
The event kicks-off tonight with a star-studded opening reception where celebrity model Dree Hemingway will be wearing the Dior dress that Marilyn Monroe is pictured in the attached photo.
On view at the Milk Gallery in New York City from November 10th through November 13th 2011, the iconic show traces the career of a woman whose image and fame has reached mythic proportions.
Curated by the Staley Wise Gallery, the exhibition consists of never before seen images and brings together some of the most famous photographers who had the honor of shooting Marilyn during her lifetime. The show spans her entire photographic life from when she was a teenager on the beach photographed by Andre De Dienes; to the “Discovery Series†by Bernard of Hollywood who helped Marilyn get her first acting role; to her shoot at age 26 with Philippe Halsman for the infamous LIFE cover which confirmed her status as “The Talk of Hollywoodâ€.
The exhibit also features photographs from the renowned shoot with Bert Stern that took place at the Bel-Air hotel in June 1962, now known as “The Last Sittingâ€. Bert (who is featured in the upcoming documentary “Becoming Bert Sternâ€) who had two sittings with Marilyn for Vogue magazine has only released a small selection of the 2571 photos that were taken. The centerpiece for the exhibition is the iconic Bert Stern photograph of Marilyn in a black Dior dress which Dior has recreated for the opening and will be worn by a surprise guest.
The exhibit will kick off with a special night on November 9, 2011 hosted by Bert Stern, Celeste Holm (ALL ABOUT EVE) and Joan Copeland (sister of Arthur Miller). The evening will also celebrate the upcoming release of MY WEEK WITH MARILYN (November 23, 2011) produced by Mr. Harvey Weinstein, starring Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Redmayne, Emma Watson and Judi Dench. The film will be screened for guests following a first look at the exhibit for what’s sure to be a magical night.
