Toriko and the gang did it! They captured Acacia’s Salad — Air! However, the victory celebration is cut short when a familiar friend-now-foe, Teppei, steals Komatsu’s heart right out of his chest and disappears into the Back Channel! Now Toriko and the other Four Kings must travel to Area 7 to capture Acacia’s Soup, Pair, to save Komatsu! Ferocious Area 7 won’t be much of a party, but they’ll still have a ball… or two!
With Komatsu, Toriko, Coco, Sunny and Zebra having traveled to Area 8 to face off against the ruler of the conteintent, Nightmare Hercules, in order to obtain the Acacia’s salad, Air, Komatsu has managed to prepare it as food. And thus saving Toriko and friends.
But just when things were looking good, Teppei comes out of nowhere and rips Komatsu’s heart out of him. And Neo comes to challenge Toriko and the others.
With Komatsu not being able to be revived due to his severe injury, he is put on a special temporary respirator, meanwhile Toriko and others need to find a food that can save Komatsu and that’s the Acacia Soup in Area 7.
But to get there, they must face immense danger once they get there.

What is “Toriko�
In Japan, we have seen Shonen Jump series that have had a long life, not just as manga but as anime series. From the “Dragon Ball†series, “One Pieceâ€, “Narutoâ€, “Bleach†and another series that has captivated readers and viewers is “Torikoâ€.
Created by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro in 2008, the manga series has been published on “Weekly Shonen Jump†and is currently on 28th tankobon volume, while the anime series produced by Toei Animation is still being broadcast since 2011 on Fuji TV.
Toriko takes place during a time where gourmet is important. The taste, the texture of food and rare ingredients are what chefs seek for, but in order to get rare ingredients and animals, major organizations hire Bishokuya (which are “gourmet huntersâ€).
The series begins with a chef named Komatsu who is dispatched by the International Gourmet Organization (IGO) to find Toriko and eventually the two become great friends and a team. As Toriko evolves in power and technique, Komatsu has evolved as a chef.
But as the two embark on their mission, they are challenged by a rival organization known as the Gourmet Corps who are bent on controlling the world’s ingredients and wanting to do all they can to hinder or even kill both Toriko and Komatsu.
But the two have endured and Komatsu has managed to cook exciting dishes thanks to Toriko’s ability to find these hard to get ingredients, sometimes both braving the most difficult missions to get the best ingredients, which typically have a high capture rate.
In vol. 33, Komatsu and the four kings (Toriko, Coco, Sunny and Zebra) have rescue Area 8 and also, thanks to Komatsu, cook and prepare delicious meals made of Air.
But just when things were going great and everyone is celebrating, Teppei comes out of nowhere and rips Komatsu heart out of him, leaving him dead. But the villagers managed to revive him temporarily and the only way to revive him is by finding Acacia’s Salad in Area 7.
But what will Toriko and others find waiting for them in the large continent?
Just when you thought the previous chapters were intense, immediately at the beginning of the chapter, our friendly chef, Komatsu, has his heart ripped out of his chest by Teppei and left for dead.
Needless to say, the race to find Teppei a new heart and save his life is the focus of “Toriko” vol. 33 as their adventure takes them to Area 7 and having to come across killer apes and a major battle ensues in order to keep Komatsu’s body safe and search for the Acacia Salad.
Without having to reveal to much, I think readers should worry about Komatsu’s demise, as he is the other 1/2 of the story and doubt Shimabukuro would kill of a major character.
In some ways, I suppose it’s no different from what Akira Toriyama had to do with “Dragon Ball Z” as Toriko and now Komatsu have gone through so much throughout the entire series.
But it will be interesting to see how the group saves Komatsu and the challenges that come their way. And I have to say that this volume alone is a bit violent and bloodier than usual. But the stakes are high and Shimabukuro knows how to captivate readers!
As always, the story for “Toriko†is far-out but so much fun and creative! The artwork by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro is well-done as the detail of each panel is amazing and there is no doubt that he is one of the few manga artists that really goes all out in his artwork.
