‘Barefoot Gen’ manga creator Keiji Nakazawa to retire

Mainichi Daily News reported:

Manga artist Keiji Nakazawa, creator of the famous manga “Barefoot Gen” about a boy in the aftermath of the Hiroshima atomic bombing, is retiring, it was learned Tuesday.

The 70-year-old Nakazawa is retiring because he can no longer draw small pictures, due to cataracts in his right eye and retinopathy in his left. However, the artist will continue his anti-nuclear activism through oil painting and adapting his works for the screen.
