Pacific Media Expo opened its three-day convention in Los Angeles on Friday. Highlights from the first day included the Asian Food Challenge, in which contestants devoured such Asian dishes as kimchi, balut, natto, and fermented black beans for a cash prize. A lolita clothing boutique featuring items designed by Maki and Asuka of Angelic Pretty served a steady stream of customers throughout the day. The day concluded with a concert featuring visual kei band, D & L, and goth band, The Candy Spooky Theater.
 Pacific Media Expo continues through Sunday.
