On August 3rd, popular variety show host of Wowowee, Willie Revillame caused a major controversy when during the broadcast, wanted an inset memorial cortege of recently departed former president Corazon Aquino removed. Revillame said during the show that it didn’t seem right that the show (which is known for its comedy and humor) should have the inset when everyone is in mourning.

Despite the audience clapping in agreement with Willie, unfortunately many others didn’t feel the same way and felt the host was disrespectful towards the late President and immediately, Willie Revillame has not hosted his show since that day and petitions to have Revillame replaced or fired have been ongoing in the Philippines.

Many have voiced their opinion that instead of doing it during the show, why not do it during the commercial break or why not cancel the show on the date of President Aquino’s funeral. Needless to say, the situation has been hotly contested on the Internet. Media reports show that ABS-CBN have clearly said in a letter obtained by the Philippine Entertainment Portal website that the host did not violate the Philippine broadcast code.

As for the Aquino family, Chris Aquino, well-known TV host and the daughter of the President was interviewed and said the family has accepted Revillame’s apology.

The celebrity sex scandal continues to heat up in the Philippines as Filipino star Katrina Halili wants three more people charged for a sex video in which her former boyfriend Dr. Hayden Kho is alleged to have video taped the couple without consent (and his friend reportedly posted the videos on the Internet).

According to the Inquire.net:

In her reply-affidavit, Halili said the counter-affidavits of Erik Johnston Chua, Dr. Herbert “Bistek” Rosario and Princess Marie Velasco showed they were aware of the existence of the sex video but they conspired with Belo to keep it.

“Despite knowledge of the said sex video between Hayden and complainant, they did not report its commission to complainant and instead they concealed and destroyed the sex videos as admitted by them,” Halili said.

“In fact, in an effort to permanently hide the criminal offense committed by respondent Hayden against complainant Halili, whose sex video was taken without her knowledge and consent, Dra. Belo instructed Erik Chua to burn her a copy of all the sex videos and to delete all the sex videos found at the laptop taken from Hayden,” Halili said.

Joey de leon and Willie Revillame make peace

October 18, 2008 by · Leave a Comment

In the Philippines, many people have seen the two Filipino TV networks ABS-CBN and GMA knock heads with their top show hosts Joey de leon (GMA’s “Eat Bulaga”) and Willie Revillame (ABS-CBN’s “Wowowwee”).

Both are popular game shows but similar to almost like America’s battle between WWE (World Wrestling Federation at the time) and WCW (World Championship Wrestling) in the 90′s when both shows on at the same time sparred each other for ratings and got personal with storylines mocking the other.  The same situation in the Philippines.

Fans of the popular shows have even joined in the fray by posting videos on YouTube supporting one over the other.

But on October 17th, it appears the rivalry between the two hosts maybe over.  At the Extreme Award held by the Philippine Star at the Embassy Super Club, many wanted to see the two hosts appear and pretty much see this rivalry end.

Winning the award category in television was Willie Revillame who in his thank you speech said “I would like to share this aware to a suprememe talent, supreme icon, my idol, Mr. Joey de Leon.  I share this award with you.”

The two stood stand by side made up and even cracked jokes at each other ending their rivalry.
