Peter Walsh – Enough Already! (a J!-ENT Book Review)

“In these tough economic times, it’s good to have a book, especially coming from Spencer Johnson, M.D., to show you some light and motivate or inspire you to have a new perspective of light and how to make good and bad times work for you.”

Many people have been used to watching Peter Walsh on TLC’s “CLEAN SWEEP”.  A show about eliminating clutter around your home.

But outside of being on television, Walsh is a successful organizational consultant for Fortune 500 companies and holds a master’s degree in educational psychology and is the president and CEO of his own international and training development company.

His first book “IT’S ALL TOO MUCH” was a New York Times Best Seller and his book “How to Organize (Just About) Everything” are favorites in how people should organize their homes because a home shows a lot about a person’s life and thinking.  Enough with the clutter!

And now with “Enough Already!”, Walsh goes further by showing how one should eliminate the clutter in their lives and their personal thinking.

Walsh tackles the following topics:

  • RELATIONSHIPS
  • WORK
  • FAMILY
  • MONEY
  • HEALTH
  • OUR SENSE OF WELL-BEING

I personally know of people who have had clutter affect their relationship.  People who tend to buy a lot of DVD’s, books, video games, toys, action figures and not have the time to spend using them.  Just collecting them to the point that it becomes clutter.  I remember one friend’s girlfriend calling me about her boyfriend’s clutter and feeling shame because she was too afraid to bring friends over.  It was affecting their relationship.

This is how Walsh is able to break things down in his book.  A variety of stories and letters detailing their problems due to clutter.  But Walsh is able to show the root of those problems but how to confront those problems.  For example, communication and learning to listen are very important.  Also, he has tips for people to follow, quiz and questionnaires for people to answer if they feel they or someone they know have a problem.

As for the other topics, Walsh goes into how clutter can extend to other parts of people’s life is at work, from lack of organization and having paperwork mount and a desk that is just too messy.  For families, clutter in the closets such as old clothes, toys, papers, that are just taking too much room for no reason.  When it comes to money, if a person has a cluttered home, it’s a sign that they have a money problem.  From people who love to bargain shop but overdo it to the point their homes are full of “stuff”, to those who need to buy things just to be happy.

The basis of the book is by cutting out clutter, being organized and changing our habits, people can be happier and possibly have some success in their persona lives and relationships.  I truly believe in this because again, I know people who have had to battle with clutter and see how it has affected them and their relationship.

So, it’s good to have a book such as “Enough Already!” really put things into perspective for people or those who know others that are affected by too much clutter in their personal lives.   Highly recommended!
