The One About Euro Demos/Intros, FUTURE CREW, Assembly 1993 Party and more…

The early 1990′s.  During those earlier years, that I spent a lot of my teenage years on the PC trying to follow the European demo scene. A scene which computer coders and electronic music fans would push the limits of older computers but also bring together that passion for electronic music with their creations.

Among the popular groups back then was FUTURE CREW and at the time, I ran a BBS called nt2099 which hosted a lot of the European demo and intros at that time.  Could you imagine that these files which would take seconds to download today, it would take almost an hour or so through a 2400 baud modem.  It’s hard to imagine now with broadband.

But a lot of these guys went on to work on major video games or work for big companies and for the most part, I’m grateful for entertaining those of us worldwide who thrived on those files on our computers at the time.

But I can remember 1993…Assembly 1993 Party and almost like a sports game, so tied into who would win these early demo competitions and the results would look something like this:

Assembly’93 party results for PC. Votes were calculated by giving five points for the first place, four for the second place and so on. Up to five contributions could be voted for. A total of 105 votes were cast.

Needless to say, I had this whole collection of Euro Demos and found them all again.  I doubt if I can get any of these to work these days (maybe with some messing around with some programs but probably a bit too tedious since I tried to run old school PC games a year ago and spent a day trying) but if there was one thing that I have received request from my old BBS visitors within the last 15 years, I have been asked if I could post them up on J!-ENT.

So, I figured we carried a lot of our old files from the nt2099 years on OSA, so might as well add all those old school Euro Demo files as well.  Fans of this genre, who can find a way to use them for today’s modern PC’s (good luck!) or post them on YouTube, feel free to…ENJOY!

And for those who need a guide to those files… I kept a text journal back then of what I wrote about these files.  I may have been hard back then…I don’t remember really, I was very young when I wrote those entries back then.  Anyway, I hope it helps.
