Back by popular demand, the Surfing Heritage Foundation announces the continuation of last years surf photographer slide shows with a new series for 2009, “Light Table Sessions” presented by Nike 6.0. The series of three shows is co-produced with the cooperation of surf publications Transworld Surf, Surfing and Surfer. Each magazine’s Photo Editor will present a slide show of their favorite images and “talk story” about the images and the photographers who took them.
As Surfing Heritage Foundation’s own Photo Editor Steve Wilkings explains, “In the day of film and transparencies, surf magazine photo editors would gather around the light table to view and critique the images as the way of selecting the best work to publish. Often, these sessions would end up including the editorial staff and the excitement of discovery would become the motivation behind the next issue”.
On April 24, Transworld Surf’s Aaron Checkwood will be first to present, followed by Peter Taras of Surfing Magazine May 22, and the series concludes on June 26 with Surfer Magazine’s Grant Ellis. Each show will be unique and all showings will be held at the Surfing Heritage Foundation’s San Clemente location, with the world’s most important collection of surfboards as the setting for the events. Participants will be able to view the collection, enjoy a no host bar; and have a unique opportunity to enjoy a slide show and meet the Photo Editors of each publication. . Each event will start at 7:00 and cost $15 to attend. Seating is limited. Proceeds will benefit SHF. For ticket sales and driving directions call the Surfing Heritage Foundation at 949 388-0313 x 5.
