In 24 hours, Charlie Sheen has set a new Guinness World Record on “Fastest Time to Reach 1 Million Followers”.

Sheen tweeted, “In all sincerity… Thank you Twitter community for the warm reception & the followers that helped get me to 1M in 24 hours!!! #teamsheen”.

How his account was verified was because it was brokered through ad.ly who handles other celebrities on Twitter.

Gullove-Sing, CEO of ad.ly explaiend how this happened in an interview with Advertising Age.  Gullov-Singh said, “ We know a bunch of people at Twitter, and we reached out to them and told them that probably the biggest name in media right now wants to be on your platform and, of course, they were all right with it. But you’re right that Twitter doesn’t verify, but they make exceptions. The thing about verification in general is that Twitter was getting overwhelmed with requests to be verified — they don’t have a team for this. Same thing at Facebook.”
