“The View” Celebrates its 3000th Show, Live, September 23

The opinionated, inquisitive, and often controversial hosts of “The View” certainly have debunked the myth that five people can’t interview one person. That tradition continues this fall as the Emmy(r) Award-winning talk and entertainment program launches its 14th season, live, TUESDAY,
SEPTEMBER 7 (11:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, ET) on the ABC Television Network.

David Letterman (host, “Late Show with David Letterman”) is confirmed to make his first-ever guest appearance on “The View,” live Tuesday, Sept. 7 to welcome Barbara Walters back where she belongs… TV and “The View.” “I just have to say upfront that I am a big fan of David Letterman on the air, and I also like him very much personally,” said Ms. Walters on “The View” in 2009. “Welcome Back Barbara” week will include a “surprise” musical number, personalized video messages from a variety of top entertainers/celebrities, plus medical segments, one featuring cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz (“Dr. Oz”), who’ll dissect the details of Ms. Walters’ heart surgery and recovery.

Retired four-star General in the United States Army Colin Powell returns as a guest, live, THURSDAY, SEPT. 9. General Powell is the former Secretary of State, serving under President George W. Bush. Prior to that, he served as National Security Advisor and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. General Powell was the first African American to serve in any of those positions.

“Fourteen seasons is quite an accomplishment, considering I wasn’t sure at the beginning if we’d last 14 weeks,” joked Bill Geddie, executive producer. “This is shaping up to be another exciting year for ‘The View.’ Right out of the gate we’ve planned a spectacular homecoming of sorts for Barbara’s much-anticipated return, followed by our 3000th show. As fall approaches we set our sights towards another political season with an emphasis on women in politics. This is a season not to be missed. One only knows the type of chaos that will ensue and the unpredictable mischief these five ladies will stir up,” he concluded.

Through Sept. 6, viewers can visit the show’s official website at ABC.com/theview for a countdown of the most outrageous and talked-about moments from last season. Plus the site now features an up-to-the-minute online clock to count down the days, hours, minutes and seconds until the launch of the new season.

3000th Show

Fourteen years, five opinionated women and 3000 reasons to celebrate “The View,” live, THURSDAY, SEPT. 23. Nothing is off limits during this one-hour “3000th Show” celebration reflecting on the show’s inception, and featuring a spectacular on-air video retrospective set to include memorable moments, show “firsts” and past and present co-hosts, “surprise guests” and one big ticket audience giveaway. In the days and weeks leading up this momentous occasion, viewers will be treated to segments going back to 1997 (the year “The View” premiered) for a fun, informative and educational peek at the hottest topics, fashions and trends of that year, as well as unique video packages highlighting the show’s “worst” moments and segments (anyone recall the “Pizza Dance”?), according to show producers and staff, and a moving “In Memoriam” tribute. CRUMBS Bake Shop has created the official “3000th Show” signature size cupcake that will be sold at all CRUMBS locations as well as online (www.crumbs.com) beginning September 23 to coincide with its on-air debut during the “3000th Show.”

*In gearing up for the elections, women earned the right to vote (19th Amendment) 90 years ago this month, and to celebrate that historic moment, the show’s on-going “Red, White & View” campaign, committed to political guests and discussions, will temporarily be rebranded “Red, White & View: The Women,” with an emphasis on female politicians. Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President for Intergovernmental Affairs and Public Engagement, makes her first guest visit to “The View,” live, MONDAY, SEPT. 13. Prior to her current position, Ms. Jarrett served as Co-Chair of the Obama-Biden Presidential Transition Team, and Senior Advisor to Obama’s presidential campaign. In a first for ‘The View,” former United States Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is confirmed to co-host, live, MONDAY, DEC. 6. Ms. Rice’s first appearance on the show was in Jan., 2009, her first post-administration television interview.

In January 2010, show producers unveiled a new continuing series, “‘The View’ Fashion Friday,” an exclusive all-access pass into the life, legacy and creations of the world’s most celebrated fashion designers. Victoria Beckham, a fashion icon who rose to fame in the 1990s as part of the internationally successful pop group “Spice Girls,” is confirmed for FRIDAY, SEPT. 17. Mrs. Beckham made her first appearance as a featured celebrity guest co-host on “The View” in Feb. 2010, and her first guest appearance on the show was in Sept. 2009. Mrs. Beckham launched her critically acclaimed dress collection in 2008 with overwhelming success and is now one of the fashion industry’s most celebrated design talents. She joins an esteemed list of past participants including Diane Von Furstenberg, Oscar De La Renta, Carolina Herrera, Jason Wu, Vera Wang, Donna Karan and “Project Runway” winner Christian Siriano.

A number of new segments will roll out during the new season, including “Cook’in Sherri,” a delectable “rich” and “filling” new series showcasing Sherri Shepherd’s high jinks as she’s taught how to cook by noted top chefs; surprise ‘Hot Topics’; a reality TV show roundup with Ms. Shepherd and members of “The View” staff; plus returning favorites like “Joy’s Month in ReVIEW,” “Bank on ‘The View'” and “‘The View’ M.D.” “Hit the Table,” launching this November, finds show producers randomly plucking one live studio audience member per week and inviting him/her to participate in a single segment of “Hot Topics.” Additionally, producers have gone back into the show’s archives to dust off the always popular Q&A segment, “Barbara’s Mail Bag,” now revamped and renamed “V Mail” to solicit online video questions from viewers (via abc.com/theview) to be answered on-air by the co-hosts.

In October, “The View” will unveil a series of Halloween treats (or perhaps tricks?) all leading up to their 14th Halloween show, FRIDAY, OCT. 29. It’s going to be a Halloween like you’ve never, ever seen before on “The View.”

Scheduled guests for the week of Sept. 6-10 are as follows (subject to change):

MONDAY, SEPT. 6 (OAD: 7/29/10) — 44th President of the United States Barack Obama; Barbara Walters, in honor of this historic occasion, makes exclusive in-studio appearance.
