Mark Burnett Returns as Executive Producer and Queen Latifah Returns as Host for the Fifth Consecutive Year
New Categories Are Offered as First Phase of Voting Begins Today
The PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS, in which fans honor their favorites in movies, music and television, will be broadcast Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2011 (9:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Mark Burnett returns as executive producer of the season’s first awards broadcast while Queen Latifah returns as host for the fifth consecutive year.
For the first time ever, fans have the opportunity to weigh in on new PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS categories, in addition to the nominees and winners they will determine later in the year. Starting today, 15 categories are eligible for voting on www.PeoplesChoice.com/pca/categories with the top vote-getters being added to the pool for the 2011 show. Additional categories are being offered in all three genres of the awards show and include Favorite Horror Movie, Favorite TV Family and Favorite Music Performance, among others. Fans also have the opportunity to write in their submissions.
“We are excited to empower the fans to help determine new categories for the 2011 show,” said Fred Nelson, President of People’s Choice. “After all, who’s better qualified to identify the best pop culture trends and moments of the year than the fans themselves?”
The PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS will be broadcast live from its home at the Nokia Theater, which is the centerpiece of L.A. LIVE, a four million square foot/$2.5 billion downtown Los Angeles entertainment, sports, dining and residential district adjacent to Staples Center.
Now in its 37th year, the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS is voted on entirely by the public for fan favorites in music, movies and television.  The “People’s Choice” Web site at http://www.peopleschoice.com/ serves as a year-round destination for entertainment enthusiasts to voice their opinions on pop culture, and determine the nominees and winners for the annual awards show. Fred Nelson is the President of People’s Choice, and the awards show is produced by Procter & Gamble Productions, Inc., which is represented by MediaVest Worldwide, Inc., supervisors of the production.  Mark Burnett is the Executive Producer.
