UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – September 28, 2011 – NFL week has arrived at “The Biggest Loser” ranch, with six NFL superstars — Drew Brees, Eric Dickerson, Tony Gonzalez, Clay Matthews, Shawne Merriman and Tim Tebow – joining the players in a football-throwing challenge and putting them through last chance workouts while motivating them to be their very best on a special episode of “The Biggest Loser” airing Tuesday, October 4 (8-10 p.m. ET) on NBC.

This week, the competition to be the Biggest Loser of the week is fiercer than ever with the weigh-in winner getting an amazing prize – a VIP trip for two to the Super Bowl! But first, host Alison Sweeney reminds the contestants that if they want to be the best, they have to beat the best at a football throwing challenge in which they compete alongside Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees and Atlanta Falcons tight end Tony Gonzalez.

While one player really struggles emotionally this week, another contestant remains determined despite being partially sidelined with an injury. And one contesstant opens up about his abusive childhood and the role it played in his weight gain. There’s a grueling, calorie-burning competition among the three teams led by trainers Bob Harper, Anna Kournikova and Dolvett Quince. And later, Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow, Buffalo Bills linebacker Shawne Merriman and Hall of Famer Eric Dickerson help put the contestants through last chance workouts they’ll never forget before a tense weigh-in reveals which player gets the coveted Super Bowl tickets. Then an emotional elimination finds one player offering to make the ultimate sacrifice for their team.

While the contestants were inspired by all of the NFL players, the players were also inspired by them. Drew Brees, who calls himself “a big fan of the show,” says, “I was inspired by the heart and determination of each contestant on the show.” Tim Tebow says he was impressed by how much “each and every one of the contestants truly desires to change their lives. Even though there can only be one winner on the show,” he says, “I felt that each contestant would ultimately be a winner in their own right because of the positive health and lifestyle habits they developed while being on the show.” Clay Matthews said “it was an honor to go out and help inspire them,” adding, “Now that I’ve had a chance to be on the show, I’m an even bigger fan and supporter of what ‘The Biggest Loser’ does.

“The Biggest Loser” is a production of Reveille, 25/7 Productions and 3 Ball Productions. Ben Silverman, Dave Broome, JD Roth, Todd A. Nelson and Todd Lubin are the executive producers.
