Award-Winning Game Continues to Be Strong Seller Into the Holiday Season
SAN MATEO, Calif. – Oct. 30, 2007 – Capcom®, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that Resident Evil® 4 Wii Edition for the Wii™ video game system from Nintendo has shipped over one million units worldwide. The game carries an “M” for mature rating from the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) and a suggested retail price of $29.99.
Since the release of the first Resident Evil game in 1996, the series has shipped over 33 million units (as of October 30, 2007) and is valued as one of Capcom’s strongest and most original intellectual properties (IP). RE4 Wii Edition retains the intensity of the original Resident Evil 4 while bringing players a totally new play experience through the use of the Wii Remote. In this way, by retaining the interest of the core fanbase and expanding outward toward new casual players through the Wii platform, Capcom has broken the 1 million units milestone, and successfully captured the attention of a new set of users.
It is Capcom’s on-going plan to aggressively pursue the continued creation of unique and inspired creations for the Wii, including such titles as Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, which is set to go on sale on November 13th, followed by We Love Golf™! in 2008.
To stay at the cutting edge of the next generation of gaming, Capcom is committed to researching and developing new processes and techniques specific to each of the unique platforms to create a revolutionary gaming experience. Building on the success of last year’s Dead Rising™ and Lost Planet™ for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, both of which were million-sellers, Capcom’s success at shipping over 1 million units of Resident Evil 4 on the Wii reflects the strong, creative R&D facilities which have allowed the company to be a success on every major next-gen platform.
Resident Evil® 4 is one of the highest rated games on Game Rankings.com and Metacritic.com, garnering dozens of awards and nominations for its amazing game play and incredible re-invention of the “survival-horror” genre. As Leon Kennedy, players will explore a town overrun by cultists, mutants and mind-controlled villagers, using the Wii Remote to aim, fire, slash and avoid oncoming adversaries with intuitive motions and movements. RE4 Wii Edition also contains the additional content included in the PlayStation® 2 computer entertainment system version of the game.
[WII] WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ANNOUNCED FOR WII SHOP CHANNEL |
October 29, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment
Oct. 29, 2007 This Halloween, you needn’t leave your own living room to encounter spooky spirits and creepy creatures from mysterious otherworlds. The Wii Shop Channel is celebrating the year’s most frightfully fun holiday by offering a mix of eerie games that’ll keep players’ spines tingling. Mash with monsters in a classic Castlevania sequel, tangle with supernatural samurai or battle as a powerful magician-you’re bound to discover cool tricks and visual treats no matter which titles you choose. Happy Hallo-Wii!
Today Nintendo adds three new classic games to the popular Wii™ video game system’s Wii Shop Channel. The games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the channel every Monday. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:
Castlevania® II Simon’s Quest (NES®, 1 player, Rated E for Everyone – Mild Fantasy Violence, 500 Wii Points): In this one-player adventure, you’ll take on the role of Simon Belmont once again and duel to the death with Count Dracula. Grab your legendary whip, Vampire Killer, and roam freely through Transylvania on a quest to find the count’s missing body parts-these are the key to breaking an evil curse. This quest won’t be easy, though, for you must battle hideous fiends who stalk the land. In addition to the intense action and tight control the Castlevania series is known for, this sequel also introduced several unique game-play elements into the fold. Build experience the longer you play, buy weapons and items from merchants, or talk with villagers to get clues (some of which are false). Watch as day turns to night and then back again. Take a deep breath, steady your nerves, and help Simon end his curse and defeat the count once and for all.
SAMURAI-GHOST™ (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, Rated E10+ for Everyone 10 and Older – Animated Blood and Violence, 600 Wii Points): This action platformer features a samurai ghost from the depths of the underworld. In a past war, Kagekiyo managed to defeat the shogun Yoritomo and his clan. However, their evil spirits were not completely destroyed, and now, in the world known as Dark Side, they seek the time of their rebirth. In order to shatter those ambitions, Kagekiyo must make his way across seven zones and head for “The Heart of the Darkside” where Yoritomo lies in wait. Use spirit weapons to power up your sword, or other items, such as candles to recover health, and defeat the endless hordes of enemies. Each zone is not only protected by a boss but also includes demons as well as real samurai from 12th-century Japan. Get ready for some intense one-on-one combat action.
MAGICIAN LORD (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen – Blood and Fantasy Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1990 and regarded as one of the NEOGEO’s earliest signature games, this side-scrolling platformer mixes action with the mystical world of fantasy. A magician named Elta, last descendant of the famed Magician Lord, takes on an epic adventure to save the world from the evil Gul-Agieze. Elta must battle through eight stages, collecting the eight tomes of power that are key to defeating Gul-Agieze and his evil plans. By obtaining orbs in one of three colors (elements) that appear during the game, Elta’s offensive powers and jumping abilities can be strengthened. The effect varies considerably depending on the combination of elements, though, and Elta can transform into six different forms: Waterman, Dragon Warrior, Shinobi, Samurai, Raijin or Poseidon. Can you help Elta to become the new Magician Lord?

[MMC][BLOG] I arrived back with no Leopard but with 2GB of RAM and now mobile |
October 27, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

Yesterday was the big day… the release of Mac OS 10.5 (Leopard).
It was also the day that I was going to go mobile via purchasing an EVDO USB modem and got the USB720 from Verizon for very cheap that day, so waiting paid off.
I tested out the EVDO via a cup of iced mocha at Starbuks and went on Justin.tv to stream a bit. Everything went well but realized my battery power is less desireable that I would need to purchase a better extended battery [note: I'm not using my Mac, I decided to use my Compaq Presario - Reason being, I wouldn't cry if I ruin/drop a low-priced PC laptop].
But wanted to try stream on justin.tv, so Friday would be a wonderful day to try.
After purchasing my iMac last week, I was told to come back and pickup my copy. Well, the Apple Store is about an hour away, no problem…was very stoked to pick it up and get my t-shirt.
Well, unfortunately to find out several minutes of getting there that since I purchased the computer, I would have to get it online.
Well, there was a little miscommunication, was a bit bummed but what can you do?
So, then I tried to stream…and what do you know. Battery power died. Streaming and using EVDO, saps my power in half.
So, the family and I went to CompUSA, after seeing how sluggish things ran on this laptop, went to look for a battery and saw that 1GB of RAM was on sale. I had a GB of RAM already but decided to go 2GB since RAM was cheap.
No extended battery, so may need to go to HP or eBay for that.
But I still wanted to be online, so purchased those cigarette lighter adapters and was able to stream again.
Capped off the night at Red Robin but I still feel a bit bummed that I didn’t get Leopard.
So, decided to do some Poser work and during rendering for a 3D project that I was up until 3:00 a.m., wake up to find out that the program crashed.
So, this morning…to my wife’s chagrin, streamed this morning on our way to the gym. Took my son to the park’s playground, streamed online with whatever battery power I had. Went on twitter and I realized that I’m a wired parent.
I watch all the parents around me and here I am watching my kid with a webcam, streaming and posting on Twitter. Hehe… I’m a wired parent. Weird to say but it’s the truth.
So, now recharging my laptop, typing this and it’s 10:00 a.m. Need to plan my day.
But can’t resist feeling empty not having OS 10.5 after being so excited for it.

Tackey & Tsubasa debuted at No. 1 once again with their latest album “TACKEY & TSUBASA BEST” (or TackeyTsuba Best) which celebrates the duo’s fifth year anniversary.
The album features the group’s CD single releases and more. With most of their music more J-Pop in nature, their latest release “SAMURAI” featured on this Best Album is more rock-based.
If you are a curious fan of T&T or want to purchase an album from them, then you can’t go wrong with their first best album because it incorporates five years of their music that was released.
The Johnny’s Jimusho machine has been going quite strong in the past two years with strong sales and and with each release, as expected with Johnny’s groups, expect multi-releases of an album.
In this case, the first version CD+DVD is what we are reviewing. But there are also two other versions released. The second version is a two-CD version which features no DVD but features a second music CD with ten more tracks which include four T&T tracks and three solo songs by Takizawa Hideaki and Imai Tsubasa each.
The third release is a single CD version but unlike the other two releases, the normal edition features a bonus track titled “Daydreamer” produced by Fujii Fumiya.
As for the DVD release, the DVD features a music video clip medley. Earlier this year the duo had a video clips release titled “Tsukiba Clips” but this one features a medley with all songs up to “Samurai”. The video clip samples of each song are actually quite long (not the typical 30-second medley sample).
But a cool addition for T&T fans is the inclusion of the fifth anniversary video (History of Tackey & Tsubasa) which is a documentary featuring the duo when they formed as a group, crowd reaction and then a behind-the-scenes look at the duo’s live performances, behind-the-scenes look at the making of music videos and an interview with both guys. The anniversary video is about 30 minutes long.
As for the CD insert, it features photos of the duo and the CD lyrics.
![]()
More than likely if you are a fan of TACKEY & TSUBASA, you are going to buy this album no matter what. If you are an uber-fan, then you are going to buy all three versions.
If you could only afford one, then I recommend the version with the DVD because of the documentary and also the music video medley.
Otherwise, the album release is solid and you can’t go wrong with any of the releases for this best album. If you dig their music, then “TACKEY & TSUBASA BEST” makes a good starting point because a lot of their cool songs from the beginning to what was released last month is on this album and much more.

Kat McDowell is a musician based in Japan and similar to other hapa artists in Japan similar to other Avex Entertainment artists OLIVIA and ANNA TSUCHIYA and is from New Zealand.
Her musical influences include Incubus, Switchfoot, Angie Stone, Goo Goo dolls, Sting and Maroon5 and she was inspired by Japanese singer Iruka who sung the famous folk song “Nagoriyuki” win which singers/songwriter covers in her latest mini-album “Kat” released by Avex’s independent label Rhythm REPUBLIC.
As a talented singer/songwriter, Kat McDowell’s first mini-album is definitely a pleasing album that I really enjoyed listening to. With her covering “Nagoriyuki” which was chosen as iTunes Japan song of the week back in April 2007, a limited edition LP version of the song was released and sold out in two days and was top of the vinyl charts in Japan.
“Kat” features a balance of rock/pop with each song featuring a balance of English and Japanese lyrics.
The mini album kicks off with “Butterfly”which features vocals and music by Kat. Featuring a hybrid English/Japanese lyrics that describes a feeling of happiness (flying high) with the person you love.
The second track is definitely one of my favorite tracks on the album “Nagoriyuki” which is a classic folk song written by Shozo Ise and originally sung by Iruka, McDowell gives the song a good balance of Japanese and English lyrics. Overall, a beautifully sung track that is catchy and addictive.
The third track “Are you living?” features a more rock driven track as the song utilizes more electric guitar and percussion. The track is primarily in English with some lines in Japanese and is a positive song about moving forward and leaving any troubles from the past behind.
The fourth track “REAL” is a mellower, rock track featuring music and lyrics by McDowell. The track is all-English and is about a person who tries to be someone else and the person who cares about them wanting them to be “real” and not fake.
The fifth and final track “Home” is a slower tempo track featuring music and all-English lyrics by Kat. The song is about a person who will be at one’s side when they are in need and taking them home where they belong.
Overall, “Kat” is a pretty solid mini-album debut for the Rhythm Republic artist.
In a way, Kat McDowell’s music reminded me a little bit of classic BONNIE PINK but with a Bohemian or even surf-like vibe as the music features a utilization of acoustic guitar in combination with McDowell’s beautiful vocals and Japanese and English lyric usage in the music. But McDowell manages to have her own style and showcase her musical style and songwriting which shines brightly on this album. Arrangement is typically McDowell on acoustic guitar and her band which are drums, bass and electric guitar. The songs definitely showcases McDowell’’s ability to sing in Japanese and English, showcase her songwriting talent and also guitar playing.
Even more impressive is her vocals which is passionately beautiful and you embrace her music immediately.
The CD insert includes the lyrics for the songs included on the mini-album and a letter of introduction by Fuku Ryuu of happy dragon, inc. Also, a mini-flier for upcoming binyl records releases.
Overall, a solid mini-album and I definitely look forward to hearing more of Kat McDowell’s music and see how the label continues to promote her.
Highly recommended!

Rarely do the video collections, include these gems but then again, the company is not going to give away everything for this one release. So, if you want the making of’s, you may want to look at our m.o.v.e 10th Anniversary interview and review for what the best albums and CD+DVD releases contain.
But as a m.o.v.e fan, I can tell you that this is the definitive video collection release for the group and you can’t go wrong.
[VIDEO GAMES] HONG KONG RAID NETS 10,000 PRODUCTS USED TO PLAY PIRATED NINTENDO SOFTWARE |
October 22, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment
High Court Intervenes to Stop Distribution, Freeze Assets
REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 22, 2007 – At Nintendo’s request, the Hong Kong High Court has intervened to help stop a global distribution operation involving game copying devices and modification chips (“mod chips”) that violate its copyrights and trademarks in the Nintendo DS™ and Wii™ systems.
On Oct. 8th, the court ordered the raid of Supreme Factory Limited facilities. During a three-day period, Nintendo representatives seized more than 10,000 game copying devices and mod chips. The game copying devices connect to the Nintendo DS and are used to copy and play game files offered unlawfully via the Internet. The mod chips allow the play of pirated Wii discs or illegal copies of Nintendo games downloaded from the Internet.
The search also turned up volumes of documents reflecting the scope of the operation. The Supreme Factory Limited has ties to a French company, Divineo SARL, and its principal, Max Louarn, who are also named in the legal action initiated by Nintendo. The High Court prohibited the companies from further distribution of the devices and from disposing a portion of their assets worldwide, and ordered that such assets be frozen pending outcome of the legal proceedings.
“Piracy affects the entire video game industry, from large companies to independent developers,” says Jodi Daugherty, Nintendo of America’s senior director for anti-piracy. “It can destroy years of hard work by a team of very talented software developers, who strive to create games consumers enjoy playing. Copying the developers’ work and spreading the game files globally is blatant stealing.”
Piracy not only affects Nintendo, but also more than 100 companies that independently create, license, market and sell Nintendo video game products. Nintendo and these companies lost an estimated $762 million in sales due to counterfeits in 2006.
This action is one of several that Nintendo has initiated over the years against game copiers and mod chips. In 2005, Nintendo was awarded more than $5 million in damages from the Hong Kong High Court against Lik Sang, a company responsible for the widespread distribution of game copying devices. In another case, a U.S. judge ordered Bung Enterprises to pay Nintendo $7 million in damages in connection with its involvement in manufacturing and distribution of such products.
The worldwide innovator in the creation of interactive entertainment, Nintendo Co., Ltd., of Kyoto, Japan, manufactures and markets hardware and software for its Wii™, Nintendo DS™, Game Boy® Advance and Nintendo GameCube™ systems. Since 1983, Nintendo has sold nearly 2.4 billion video games and more than 420 million hardware units globally, and has created industry icons like Mario™, Donkey Kong®, Metroid®, Zelda™ and Pokémon®. A wholly owned subsidiary, Nintendo of America Inc., based in Redmond, Wash., serves as headquarters for Nintendo’s operations in the Western Hemisphere. [Wii] WII-KLY UPDATE: THREE NEW CLASSIC GAMES ADDED TO WII SHOP CHANNEL |
October 22, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment
October 22, 2007
Autumn leaves aren’t the only reason your October is about to get a lot more colorful. The latest additions to the Wii Shop Channel deliver a brisk, eye-pleasing mix of classic gameplay for fall. Dive into this pile of vibrant titles for a timeless dose of fun and fantasy.
Three new classic games go live at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Nintendo adds new games to the Wii Shop Channel every Monday. Wii™ owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points™ to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at retail outlets. This week’s new games are:
Lunar Pool® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 500 Wii Points): Lunar Pool takes the historical game of billiards and reinvents it with a unique and futuristic flair. The rules are simple: All you need to do is use your cue stick to hit the white cue ball, causing it to hit the other numbered balls and make them go into the pockets. You can enjoy nearly unlimited game play with 30 tables, two different ball arrangements, and the ability to change the degree of friction on the table. You can play against a computer or another human player, so try challenging someone once you’ve got the hang of the game.
Ninja JaJaMaru-kun® (NES®, 1-2 players, Rated E for Everyone, 600 Wii Points): Take on the role of a ninja called JaJaMaru and rescue the captured Princess Sakura from the evil Namazu Dayuu in this action-packed game, previously unreleased outside of Japan. JaJaMaru must use his throwing stars to defeat the monsters lurking in each of Dayuu’s many hideouts. JaJaMaru has to be careful though, as each monster has its own unique weapon and method of attacking. The only way for him to advance is to break the floor bricks above him and move up and down between the levels of each round, defeating monsters as he goes. To help him, broken bricks sometimes reveal items that JaJaMaru can use to his advantage, possibly leading to the ultimate power-up: a ride on Gamapakun, the giant frog. Throw in some bonus stages and you’ve got a game with a style all its own.
Golden Axe™ III (Sega Genesis, 1-2 players, Rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence, 800 Wii Points): The once-peaceful kingdom so familiar to fans of the original Golden Axe is under threat once again. The Prince of Darkness has stolen the invaluable Golden Axe, taken over the kingdom and rendered its warriors harmless with an evil curse. One warrior breaks free from the curse and must defeat the prince and regain the Golden Axe to save the kingdom. In this one- or two-player action game, play as a giant, a panther or a sword-wielding human and fight your way to victory once again.

As a young lad, before surfing or just loungin’ at home, I would always amp myself up with music from The Cult, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane’s Addiction, Motorhead, Guns and Roses, Van Halen, Aerosmith and classics from Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
I would get stoked by listening over and over again to the guitar riffs and hard hitting sound of these bands and nearly 15 years later, I have this grin on my face because I have discovered a Japanese band called ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK for the first time and have listened to their album “TRANSWORLD ULTRA ROCK”.
The band which consists of Morimoto Aki (guitar and vocals), Maekawa Kazuto (bass) and Ito Tomoharu (drums) is a band from Japan that have been building a fanbase in the US and Europe since 1999 by showcasing their rock music which combines genres such as classical rock, punk and heavy metal.
Because of their touring and networking throughout Europe, the band met with Grammy nominated producer Attie Bauw (Judas Priest, Scorpions) and in 2005, released their critically acclaimed album “Beat Me”.
Two years later, the group has a new album released titled “TRANSWORLD ULTRA ROCK”.
When I first listened to “TRANSWORLD ULTRA ROCK”, I was blown away. It’s been awhile since I enjoyed an album this immensely, listening to it dozens of times and even calling up the digital distributor for the band, japanfiles.com and telling them how I love the album and how I wanted to see this band perform live.
“ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK” embodies of what I call fuckin’ kick ass rock music that I love. Music that some people may call “classic rock” but nevertheless, rock music made even more interesting because this band is from Japan and not from the US or Europe and their appreciation for the bands that I grew up listening to.
The first three songs are enough to put you into music bliss with “I Can’t Hear You” (an excellent opening song), “Big Mistake”, “Dice de Try” are examples of songs that feature awesome guitar riffs.
“Dice de Try” has a Jane’s Addiction guitar riff similar to “STOP” and a song that utilizes a Red Hot Chili Peppers “I Cry” (Mother’s Milk) and even a Motorhead style and then a transition to a Black Sabbath or Zeppelin’ style of segment and then a climactic return to the guitar riff. Awesome!
Even the cover of the classic Minnie Ripperton song “Loving You (Is Easy Because Your Beautiful)” is an adrenalin charged track that incorporates a synergy and excitement along the same vein of the album track song “TRANSWORLD ULTRA ROCK” that you can’t laugh but rock at the same time.
All in all, I enjoyed every song on this album. Each song has something different, something fresh and overall provides a good balance to the whole album.
![]()
Although I came late and have just jumped on the ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK bandwagon, I really enjoy the music from this band.
I have read how their live performances are awesome and have read about the drummer’s use of four drum sticks and that he even plays naked. Insane!
I’ve listened to a lot of rock bands from Japan and because ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK is passionate about the classic rock music that I grew up listening to, I may be a bit biased towards the band because of that. But still, the overall quality and presentation of their music on the album is solid.
How they take classic rock from the 60′s and 70′s and fuse that with that classic 90′s rock sound into the mix, is just too awesome. The music is well-done and well-balanced, the humor they interject on some songs are hilarious and yet fuckin’ cool at the same time!
ELECTRIC EEL SHOCK’s “TRANSWORLD ULTRA ROCK” is highly recommended!
[MMC][BLOG] Fires near Pepperdine U. and the crazy JTV after-hour antics |
October 21, 2007 by Dennis Amith · Leave a Comment

My friend Kathy told me about the fires near Pepperdine. It seems each month, there has been a major fire around California…Northern, Central, Southern.
But near Pepperdine University and even near Malibu, there seems to be fires happening near there (quite a bit it seems) and some people who have captured video. Here is one from earlier this year and another last year:
In happier news, while perusing for video footage of Pepperdine, I found this really creative stage show of a group doing Super Mario Bros.
Anyway, getting blown away with the stuff going on at JTV after hours and coverage of the crazy antics can be found at JustinTV Gossip:
http://jtvgossip.blogspot.com/
A lot of weird stuff (stuff that people get banned for) on JTV lately. Mostly after midnight…
And I have to give Alexa of AlexaTV props for doing the following video which she just posted on youtube.com:
