[VIDEO GAMES] ANOTHER ANALYST DISSING THE PS3

The PS3 is not really have a good year in the press.  Analysts and business writers have been very critical against the pricing and the Blu-ray strategy of Sony and this time RealMoney Michael Comeau joins the fray.

According to Comeau (on thestreet.com), “After more than a decade at the top of the video game heap, during which it sold more than 200 million consoles, Sony (SNEcommentaryCramer’s TakeRating) is set to be knocked off its firm position as King of the Hill because of its flawed PlayStation 3 strategy.”

[US] PLAYSTATION 2 TO OUTSELL PS3 AND OTHER NEXT GEN CONSOLES IN 2007?

In a recent article on Business Week, Kenji Hall writes that the Sony Playstation 2 will outsell the PS3 in 2007.

“”The PS2 will have legs well into 2008,” says Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities in Los Angeles. And while Nintendo Co.’s Wii console is getting most of the industry buzz, and the Xbox 360 from Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) has racked up big sales in its year on the market, some say the PS2 might even beat out each of those offerings in 2007. “The PS2 probably has the capacity to sell more than any other gaming” console, says Simon Jeffrey, chief operating officer at game maker Sega of America (see BusinessWeek.com, 12/28/07, “Sega Games the Systems”).

[V. GAME] WII INCREASES KANSAI’S IMPORT FIGURES

In today’s article of the Daily Yomiuri, the imports of Nintendo’s popular Wii console has been increasing the import sales figures in the Kansai region.

According to the article, “According to the report, the prefectures’ total toy imports in November, including video game consoles, reached 25.3 billion yen, 2-1/2-times more than the same month last year, becoming the largest single contributor to the increase in total imports. Most of the imported toys were made in China, and Wii consoles accounted for about 40 percent of total imports from the country.”
